Hi my father who currently lives in the UK is considering retirement here in udon thani.

He has enough savings for the visa but ideally would like to use the 65000 a month method if possible.

If not possible this is ok.

What would he have to do first

Many thanks

I looked at the Thai embassy website. Is it the up to 90 day non o he should apply for. Also it mentions having covid insurance. Where should he get this. Again many thanks for the help

No Insurance.

But will either need 800k or 65k income proof.  This can be in a UK bank.  And getting the non-O in the UK will make things a lot easier here, he should get a bank account relatively easily and fewer trips to immigration.

Google

Pattaya, visa agents. Ask for info. You will find out that agents can do the Non-O and the retirement visa without 65k or 800,000 Baht needed. Service appreciated by hundreds of foreigners 😁👍

Having just done it, I highly recommend getting a non-immigrant O visa in home country, showing the equivalent of 800k baht in home bank.

The non-imm O gives 90 days stay and allows easy opening of a Thai bank account. You need to deposit 800k baht and maintain it for 2 months, whereby you can then apply for a 12 month extension that costs 1900 baht.

You have to maintain 800k in bank for 3 months after extension granted, can drop to 400k for 7 months, and then back to 800k 2 months before next 12 month extension.

(Or, as stated above you need 12 months of deposits before you can use the 65k income method)

Many Thousands, just in Pattaya - at 10K baht each going to immigration - flowing right up the hierarchy pyramid, which is why it has been going for decades.

If he starts the transfers, he could keep his money in the UK, use an agent for 2 years, then apply w/o the agent in his 3rd year.  In the 2nd year, his bank-balance history from them 1st year would prevent skipping the agent.
