one of my foreign neighbors drives every day late afternoon into the city, meeting his drinking friends at a bar.

after drinking a few beers, he drives back home, about 20 km. everyone knows he drinks every day and

gets drunk quite often. if he is drunk it can get easily out of controll.

 

why do so many foreigners here in thailand think it is their right to drink and drive? what do these kinds

of people think? why do these people always defend their drink and driving habit?

 

if an accident happens, innocent people get injured or killed, but these selfish and ruthless farangs just don't care.

it is a shame, the police does not much (or better nothing) against it ... 

 

btw, about 45 years ago, a friend of mine was killed by a drunken driver. 

I live south Pattaya, Years ago I'd go out drinking every afternoon with mates. Back then no checkpoints, today it's to risky. 

 

I've got mates that live 20km away (darkside), they'd never drink drive anymore. 

 

I'd say it won't be long before your neighbour gets done for DUI. 

 

Call me an Ahole, but I'd have to report him.  There's no excuse for anyone being that irresponsible in the 21st century.  If he gets that drunk, it's not if something will happen, but when and to who.

 

For my monthly pub crawls days past, I use to hire a tuk tuk driver (on speed dial) for the night, and get a hotel, since living out of town.   Any other time, the GF/wife would drive after that 3rd beer.

Causing death by drunk driving is "tantamount to murder"......but not in a legal sense.

Unfortunately laws are brought in for the ones who cause problems as then everyone is supposed to follow those laws whether it makes sense individually or not.

 

Eg. Weed was banned for everyone because 2% of the population can not handle weed. 
 

Speed humps on the road are everywhere because a small percentage of people will not slow down in built up areas but the speed humps annoy everyone.

 

It is unfortunate. The bigger the city the more rules you need to follow.

if a drunk driver deliberately killed someone it would be murder.

Accidents happen.

I have been drink driving all my life, never had an accident drunk. 
You just have to be sensible about it, don’t speed, use indicators, concentrate.

Dont give the police any reason to pull you over.

I understand your feeling, you are thinking you are doing the right thing, so you get angry when you see people not doing the “right thing”.

 

It is the same emotion that makes religions so toxic. A hardcore Muslim will feel that way about a women not dressed appropriately, a hardcore Christian will not like atheists etc.

But the fact is I, and many people I know are capable of driving drunk. Some people can not.

Yes, probably because I was not concentrating and following the road rules as deligently as I do after drinking so as not to give police any reason to pull me over.

 

Average 3 times a week for 30 years without a problem. 0r 900 times.

I drink drive, as millions of other people do, I have done for 30 years, and I have never had an incident.

 I think most people do drink (not drunk) drive sometimes, especially if it's local roads. I bought a condo near the bars where I drink so I would not get drunk and drive but the local bar which is 3 minutes from my house I do take my bike to.

Which is a shame.......I'd hate to think you watched a drunken neighbour leave your soi on a regular basis and one day wipe out an innocent family on the expressway....I would feel a strong sense of responsibility for 'allowing' that to happen.
