Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
That, IMHO is an EXCELLENT point. When I applied for my LTR visa in 2023, my Canadian tax submission (and the Canadian government reply with their assessment) was invaluable. The Canadian government assessment reply to my tax returns, stated my income from Canada was VERY small, and yes it stated the tax I paid to Canada was accordingly MASSIVELY smaller (trivial really), ... but the Canadian government assessment reply to my Canadian tax return did list my GLOBAL INCOME (ie from outside of Canada) where that was adequate to qualify me for a Thailand LTR visa. So for tax year 2021 and 2022 (for a Thailand year 2023 LTR visa application) my Canadian tax returns were very helpful. However the previous 2 decades of tax returns to Canada (while I lived and worked in Germany) were in truth a total waste of Canadian tax payer money to process my tax returns to Canada. But the Canadian government is not about efficiency when it comes to spending tax payer's money. I suspect many governments are like that. -

If Trump is re-elected what does it say about the I.Q of the average American?
What is “the rest” that Harris would do better? Quite a few. Yes, we have enough criminals of our own, we don’t need more. But for many, particularly the poor, it is their biggest problem. What might be a bigger problem? -

If Trump is re-elected what does it say about the I.Q of the average American?
What traditional values? Trump has had multiple wives and concubines. He got caught paying off a call girl. He has been implicated in multiple financial inappropriate activities and left a series of bankruptcies. Is that what you consider a traditional value? Crime is not off the charts. With the exception of mass murders, typically in Republican states with little firearm oversight, crime rates have been steadily improving. It has nothing to do with law enforcement or the lack thereof and everything to do with the ageing of the population. Older populations have a lower crime rate. Certain displays at Walmart have been locked up since I was a kid. The Walgreens and CVS stores with the locked up items are in districts where there is a high level of shoplifting. It's the local consumers in those districts who suffer, and they will suffer more once the retailers close down the unprofitable stores. You can complain all you want about the failure to stop shoplifting, but it is prohibitively expensive to incarcerate people. It can cost US$50,000 a year to hold someone in prison, and taxpayers won't pay. Unless you start lynching people from the street corner as a deterrent, there isn't much that can be done if the US people are inherently dishonest. And yes a majority of US residents are poorly educated and ignorant. Ask 100 US residents their state capital or how their government is structured or what is in the US Constitution, or some basic math or to name some planets or how the tides occur and the vast majority will be unable to answer the questions correctly. Part of it is the low quality education, and some of it is the diet of over processed food with brain damaging chemicals, and part of it is the obesity and rest is just laziness. There was a time when people wanted to learn and to explore for themselves. Now they are afraid and rely on "influencers" to tell them how to think.- 1

Pickup Truck Flies Across Median, Collides with Car: 28-Year-Old Man Killed on the Spot
The incident occurred when a pickup truck flew across the median of a six-lane road, crashing into a car and ripping it apart. The collision tragically claimed the life of a 28-year-old man, who died at the scene. The driver of the pickup claims his vehicle was struck from behind before the incident. At approximately 21:30 on October 17, Lieutenant Pramote Kongnantha, an investigation officer from the Makham Police Station, was alerted to a fatal accident between a pickup truck and a sedan. The crash resulted in one fatality and two injuries on Route 317, Chanthaburi-Sa Kaeo outbound, near the Makham Post Office in Chanthaburi Province. Rescue teams were dispatched with cutting tools to extract the victims trapped inside their vehicles. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a black Mitsubishi pickup truck overturned and was severely damaged. Two people were injured in the vehcile: Mr. Narong (surname withheld), 52, and a 7-year-old girl. Rescue teams quickly freed them from the wreckage and transported them to Makham Hospital. Approximately 20 metres away, a Mitsubishi car from Rayong was found facing the wrong direction, heavily damaged with half of the vehicle destroyed. Inside the wreckage, rescue workers found the body of Mr. Dechnarong (surname withheld), 28, who had died on impact. It took rescuers over 30 minutes to cut through the wreckage and recover his body. According to Lieutenant Pramote’s initial investigation, Mr. Narong had been driving the pickup truck with his 7-year-old niece after purchasing supplies for his durian orchard in Chaman Subdistrict, heading home to Tha Mai District. The driver claimed that a vehicle following him clipped the rear of his truck, causing him to lose control and cross the median, slamming into the oncoming sedan, leading to the fatal collision. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Both vehicles’ dash cameras have been seized for analysis. Authorities are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent investigation for all parties involved. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-18 -

Phuket taxi driver hits foreign man on airport zebra crossing
I walk and cycle here all the time, and last month came back from 3300km cycling trip in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Never had any issues. In order to stay alive you just need to assume that there are no rules, that's all. A lot of Thais bought their licences and never learned the rules too. Heaps drive without licences at all. By the way I've seen a lot of foreigners breaking the rules as well. -

Thailand has become poor value for money. Unless you smoke heavily, drink heavily in pubs, and eat Thai food, it is very expensive.
