Thaksin Unfazed by Impeachment Case Against PM Srettha

Thaksin Shinawatra, former Thai prime minister and influential political figure, reassured reporters today that he feels no concern regarding the impeachment lawsuit filed against current Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

 

Speaking from his Chan Song Lah residence, Thaksin stated the case against Srettha appears baseless, asserting that the Prime Minister had acted "transparently and honestly" in his appointment of Pichit Chuenban to the Prime Minister’s Office.

 

Pichit, a former lawyer for Thaksin, was granted a ministerial seat in the Pheu Thai-led cabinet earlier this year. However, the decision drew criticism and legal scrutiny, culminating in the current impeachment proceedings.

 

The impeachment case, filed by a group of 40 senators, alleges that Srettha breached the constitution and ethical guidelines by appointing Pichit, who has a criminal record.

 

Although Pichit resigned amidst mounting pressure, the senators argue that the illegality of his appointment remains and constitutes sufficient grounds for Srettha’s impeachment.

 

Despite these challenges, Thaksin expressed confidence in Srettha's ability to defend himself, highlighting his belief that the prime minister did not intentionally violate any laws. The Constitutional Court is set to deliver its verdict on August 14. If found guilty, Srettha could be removed from office, throwing the Pheu Thai party into turmoil.

 

The stakes are high not only for Srettha but also for Thaksin, whose political legacy and influence continue to loom large over Thai politics. Thaksin insisted that the process was above board and compliant with legal and ethical standards, dismissing the lawsuit as politically motivated.

 

As the August 14 hearing approaches, all eyes in Thailand remain fixed on the Constitutional Court, which will determine the future of the Srettha administration and potentially reshape the political landscape.

It would sure be fun to see an illegitimate PM, who was installed as a puppet in exchange for a deal to allow Thaksin to return to Thailand and not have to go to jail, impeached.

 

That would be some sort of universal justice. And it might give the Thai people some hope, after the election was stolen from the man who they enthusiastically elected.

 

He is the future hope of Thailand, Mr. Pita. Not Srettha. He is the do nothing PM.

So why does Thailand want to join BRICS? There’s probably a good deal of their governments playing up for their local audience. Thitinan Pongsudhirak, someone always worth listening to, argued that this “hasty and misguided move” was intended for domestic consumption, mainly because Srettha has a litany of unfulfilled promises:

 

No progress on joining the OECD

 

No Schengen visa-free deal

 

No real progress on a trade deal with the European Union

 

And major pushback on his government’s “digital wallet” and “Land Bridge” schemes.

The recent events are worthy of a mass funeral. Thailand might have been the tiger of SE Asia a decade or so ago, having been the 22nd largest economy in the world, but those days are long gone. So, I would say it would be safe to refer to Thailand as an up and coming country, post Covid. I would not be surprised to see Thailand in 75th place in terms of GDP, 20 years from now. There is absolutely no doubt the nation is moving backwards, on at least a dozen levels. And unless a dynamic leader like Thanathorn or Pita comes along, as is allowed to lead, the great tiger will continue to devolve into a whiny little street cat. 

 

Go ahead and stick with regressive conservative policies, resist change and progress at all costs, and run your nation into the ground.

Hey i'm not criticizing their system. If it works for them who am i to judge?

However when a group of people wish to join a group of legitimate and, for the most part, honorable people governed by laws applicable to everyone involved sans "Elites" they must prove they are worthy of trust. This will never happen with Thais. With China. Sure.

If Sodom and Gomorrah were an actual modern place Thailand would be it imho. If i was them i would not expect a seat at a table filled with respectable men and women. But they can for sure host the party after the meetings 5555

More of a tourist minister. And even with that ... no nuance, cleaning up the industry to attract a better clientel - NOPE. JUST OPEN THE DOORS TO MASS TOURISM was his solution and the problems that will face Thailand because of this utter nonsense.

  1.  Increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FALSE)

 

  2.  Improved agricultural prices (possibly TRUE due to inflation)

 

  3.  A moratorium on farmers' debts (TRUE)

 

  4.  An enhanced education quality for children (FALSE)

 

  5.  Increase in the daily minimum wage (possibly TRUE)

 

  6.  Law that allows same sex marriage (TRUE)

 

  7.  Upgrades to the 30 baht health care program (possibly TRUE)

 

  8.  Intensified drug suppression efforts (partially TRUE)
