Former BBC TV news presenter Huw Edwards, a household name in Britain, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to three counts of making indecent pictures of children. Edwards, 62, who was the BBC’s highest-paid journalist and top news anchor until he quit in April, had arrived at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court wearing sunglasses, making his way through a throng of photographers and camera crews. After confirming his identity, he was asked if he wished to indicate a plea to the three charges, which relate to three different categories of indecent images. Edwards said, “Guilty.”

Judge Paul Goldspring stated that Edwards would be sentenced on September 16. During the 25-minute hearing, prosecutor Ian Hope detailed that the 41 still or moving images had been sent to Edwards by an adult male on WhatsApp between December 2020 and August 2021. Hope added that seven of the 41 images were of the most serious kind and that two of those seven were pornographic videos of a child possibly aged seven and nine years old. Edwards’ lawyer, Philip Evans, emphasized that the charges to which his client had indicated guilty pleas related only to images that were sent to him via WhatsApp.

“There is no suggestion in this case that Mr. Edwards has in any way made, in the traditional sense of the word, any images in any physical way or created any images of any sort,” Evans said. Edwards, who announced the death of Queen Elizabeth to the nation in 2022 and led coverage of elections, royal weddings, and the 2012 Olympics, has not been on TV screens for a year, and the court appearance was his first in public since then. He quit in April on medical advice after newspaper allegations last year that he had paid a young person thousands of pounds for sexually explicit photos.

A "household" face of paedophilia.

More Paedos at the BBC.

Why break the tradition of a lifetime? I'm sure there are many more yet to be exposed. Saville, Harris, Edwards et al are just the tip of the iceberg.

All paid for by money extorted from the British public.

The state funded left wing paedo propaganda machine.

You do know who the Director General of the BBC is and who appointed him?

Why is he wearing sunglasses? So we will not recognise him?

Indeed.

I'm surprised they haven't gone and got Philip Schofield to replace him. He is available and has already proved he is in line with the BBC's values regarding covering up inappropriate behaviour with children.

He'd be a perfect fit.

Phillip Schofield did not do anything with children. He was with a consenting adult.

A particularly weak attempt at deflection.

The BBC's culture is deeply flawed and runs through several decades. It has a long history of paedophiles and covering up for paedophiles. Edwards is simply the latest sorry episode to disgrace the BBC.

It needs to be defunded immediately.

You need to take that up with the Director General, himself a Tory, appointed by a Tory Government.

And yes I understand you’d rather the whole of British Media were under the control of unaccountable billionaires who might not live in the UK nor even be British.

Only 9 posts in. That's good going, even for you.

If you have a counter argument to the DG being the person in charge of the BBC and hence the person to whom complaints should be addressed, let’s be having it.

It gets complicated though...

I'm confused, why plead guilty to making them, if you never did it?

For me, growing up in the UK in the 70s, he was one of the most famous entertainers of all. I still find it hard to accept the sheer scale of the  abuses he perpetrated, partially because of the mind boggling extent of it, but also because he was so entrenched in society.

Saville was like Epstein without the money - the great and the good loved to be with him, Thatcher and Charles Windsor being two of his staunchest allies and protectors.

But apparently there was lots of chatter about his behaviour - it wasn't a total secret. It's just that he could rely upon his powerful friends to protect him.

Can't your sort give it a rest for just 1 minute  ?  any excuse to start your boring predictable whining and  whinging about the tories, and if its not them, then its "right wing extremists"   Are you that obsessed with your left- right fixation that you have to bring it into every single thread ?, just like a Trump hater, it really is bizarre behaviour

Are you incapable of understanding that issues like pedophillia and the cold blooded murder of kids at a dance class transcend your petty left - right arguments, and sentiments

I don't care who is in charge of the BBC , how much money they have or where they live.  i was quite surprised at your closing words didn't think you would discriminate...   "not even british"..   I can't imagine how awful that would be,  can you?   .   as i said I don't really care but I would rather they dealt with their pedo employees more robustly

That's  a sign of how entrenched kiddie fiddling has actually  become in the BBC. it must have been going on for a very long time if some of the practices are now thought of as " traditional "  presumably when compared to what ever contemporary  techniques are currently in use.    The judge  also seems to have  gone  out of his way to trivialise Edward's behaviour by qualifying the definition of "making images" almost suggesting it might have been an accident ,

I also heard a report where the judge had said there was "no question of his being of good character, as he was clearly of the highest character"  well when judged by the standards of the BBC he may well be. but  personally I don't agree

Probably a lenient sentence awaits him but basically he's toast    He didn't come out of it totally empty handed though of course, his £500k salary was paid in full and he even got a £40,000 a year pay rise whilst suspended

its because his eyes are so sensitive to the sun, a result of spending most of his time in a darkened room glued to his computer with his eyes rolled round to the back of his head , masturbating   Did you notice his pale pallid complexion ?   that's known as a "tossers tan" they don't get out much

of course it isn't, at least not compared to who knew about this apparently "open secret"  ( a word synonymous with saville as I remember) and the names of those who actively protected him and enabled him to continue his personal  long term error of judgement as and when he felt the need. and of course who ever signed off his astonishingly generous pay increase
