Transwoman Arrested in Bangkok for Trafficking Teenage Girls

A Thai transwoman was apprehended at a hotel in Bangkok for sex trafficking two teenage girls, one aged 16 and the other 17. The Children and Women Protection Sub-Division officers uncovered online advertisements featuring the underage girls, leading them to pose as potential clients.

 

The law enforcement officers contacted the 30-year-old transwoman, Samart, who had posted the adverts. An undercover officer arranged a hotel meet in the Charan Sanit Wong district of Bangkok, after negotiating to pay 4,500 baht for sexual services from the teens.

 

Samart and the girls arrived at the hotel where the officers revealed their identities and arrested them. The teenage girls were considered victims and did not face legal consequences.

 

The two charges against Samart are as follows:

 

1. Section 6 of the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, which condemns profiting from prostitution involving individuals above 15 but below 18 years of age. This charge carries a penalty of six to 15 years in jail and a fine ranging from 600,000 to 1.5 million baht.
2. Section 9 of the same Act, which prohibits encouraging or causing a person aged over 15 but under 18 to be involved in prostitution. This can result in a jail sentence of five to 15 years and a penalty of 100,000 to 300,000 baht.

Thailand it's legal for a girl to have sex at 15 but legally they can only have sex with those similar age, school boys. 

 

These girls are unable to work in the sex industry to support their children. The children that have been fathered by these school boys, these school aged boys don't have money.

That is a totally different problem that is not valid to support your stance that sex trafficking is OK... sex trafficking is NEVER OK.

These two girls arrived at the hotel willingly with the trans-women, knowing what they were expected to provide for the payment.

All over Thailand girls of this age are engaging in the sex trade, either in short-time hotels or other venues using social media to provide private hook-ups.

Trafficking does exist yes, but in Thailand it's in the minority, most do it as a means of necessary income.

When they reach the age of 18 they progress to the bars and massage shops for employment.

AFAIK between 15 and 18 years old it is legal to consent to sex with any aged partner BUT the consent can be withdrawn after the act by the young person OR their guardians, making the other party guilty of having sex with a minor between the ages of 15 and 18, and it makes no difference how old that other person is.

In any case, sex for money or any type of compensation is illegal at this age.

There are extensive resources: many threads about this subject, several Wikipedia entries. Try reading before posting

Thailand actually does have laws, which are published in the Royal Gazette and can be read if you are not illiterate.  Read them, and then post.
