How long before a Marriage Extension expires can you apply for a new one?  I have made the mistake of committing to being in the UK only 10 days after mine expires completely forgetting about the 'Under Consideration' phase.

Thank you.

as light beer said 30-45 days depending on where you are,

Here in Khon Kaen where we are I always do it as soon as I am allowed. It it is always a god idea to do it early, that way if there are any issues you have time to rectify them , and you don't know what the future will bring making it difficult to do it closer to the expiration time. Call  you local office, they speak english, explain the situation and ask them how early you could do it.

Dr Jack - a small and VERY friendly and helpful office in Chai Nat.

That would be up to 30 days early.

Since your immigration office is helpful and friendly, suggest you see them asap to discuss options.

Immigration offices can process your application earlier than stated rule.

Showing them flight ticket to UK would help.

Just go to the horses mouth so to speak.

Edit: if you haven't used your one 60 day extension to visit wife, immigration may suggest that.

Thank you for your replies.  30 days before would be ideal and give me time for the 'consideration'.  Was a stupid mistake on my part and one I will not repeat.

Thank you all for your time and advice.

You could just as for a visa for visiting thai family, instead applying for another extension. Get a multi re-entry permit, then on your return apply for the marriage extension

As I pointed out earlier ...that would be an option if he has previously not obtained the 60 day extension.

Also he would only need a single reentry permit to protect his permission of stay for trip to UK during the 60 day extension

some offices start the 30 day period on the date of application, some on expiry of the current extension

At least 30 days prior to its expiry, 45 days prior at many IO's.

How you proceed depends on a few factors.

From your previous experience, does your IO date the 30 day 'under consideration' stamp from the date of the application, or from the expiry date of your current extension?

How long do you intend to stay in the UK for?

Depending on the answers to the above questions, you may have options;

1. A re-entry permit to cover the 'under consideration' period.
2. A 60 day extension, if you haven't previously applied for one since your last entry.

3. Apply for a new Non Imm O visa whilst in the UK, to re-enter Thailand if 1, or 2 above are not feasible.

As @DrJack54 stated, also speak to your IO.

This year, my extension based on marriage was approved prior to my current extension expiring, which would be the ideal solution to your scenario.

Extension due 10th July.
Submitted application 18th June.

30 day 'under consideration' stamp dated until 9th August. (30 days from expiry date).

Thursday 4th July received a call advising my application had been approved.

Away for the weekend so advised IO I would visit Tuesday 9th July - no problem.

1 year extension stamp issued on 9th July, 1 day before my current extension expired, extending stay to 10th July 2025.

... and if it is the latter, you may not be present when you need to return for the final stamp after "consideration" - so be sure to address this with Immigration, and see if they can make it work.

If a short-trip, you could get a re-entry permit for your "under consideration" time - provided you will be returning to Thailand before their "return to immigration" date.
