On the evening of August 12, at approximately 17:00 Police Colonel Thanaphon Klinkesorn, the Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station in Chonburi Province, received a report about two suspicious suitcases abandoned under a pedestrian bridge along Sukhumvit Road, in front of a department store in Sattahip. The discovery caused concerns among the public, as there were fears that the suitcases could contain explosives.

Upon receiving the report, police officers and investigative teams immediately arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area. They requested support from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Royal Thai Navy’s Ordnance Department to conduct a thorough inspection. The scene attracted a crowd of onlookers who gathered to witness the unfolding situation.

Eyewitnesses reported that they had noticed the suitcases being left unattended for several hours. Initially, they assumed the owner would return to collect them. However, as time passed and the suitcases remained in place, concerns grew that they might contain explosives, prompting the call to the police.

As the EOD unit was en route to the scene, a young woman emerged from the department store and identified herself as the owner of the suitcases. The police conducted a search of the bags and found only clothing and personal items inside.

The woman expressed shock at the incident, explaining that she had left the suitcases under the pedestrian bridge while waiting for a friend to pick her up. She had then gone into the department store to pass the time. She was alarmed to see police investigating what turned out to be her own luggage. The woman apologised for the confusion and the disruption caused by the incident.

Back around 2008-2009 near my home [in Thailand] a large briefcase had been left on a concrete picnic table outside a shop.

Locals had aroused suspicion and called the local plod, they walked around then called the army base nearby.

Many Thais were up and down the road about 20 yards away, but shops in the parade all had people upstairs hanging out of the windows.

They sent two guys who looked at the bag, decided to try a novel approach... they tied a string to the handle and placed a car tyre below the table on the floor.

I departed at that point wondering if they were serious, a friend who stayed to watch later came to see us and said he was hoping for an explosion?

I said just as well it didn't, I would have seen you flying overhead and waved goodbye.
