Is it just me: Or, have you made the decision to spend your money on Amazon?

Recommended Posts

I bought my last mini PC from Amazon. I also buy toiletries, underwear, shoes and some tools.

Every now and then they have a "free" delivery promotion. I keep stuff in the cart and when I get a notice I check out.

Most food and snack will not deliver to Thailand.

Today, I tried to buy a King Size (SERTA) mattress protector/cover from Amazon.

Really nice price.

And, I would be happy to pay for the freight cost, too.

I need a good one to protect from dust mites.

But, the TAX to deliver here in Thailand was 120 percent.

So, tax/duty on this was more than the total cost of the product and tax, in fact.

What are they thinking?

I am prepared to buy EVERYTHING from Amazon, in the future, simply due to relative lack of customer service from most retailers here.

I like to buy from TOPS and LOTUS, because I think that they give me good customer service, and after-sales service.

But, without naming names, some other stores are not up to this level.

Of course, now that JIB, at least at the JIB I frequent, has begun giving me great service, then I will have no qualms, in the future, about continuing to buy from JIB.  JIB has really upped their game, at least at the shop I go to.

I just wish that Amazon could think of a way to take over 80 percent of retailing here in Thailand.

Because, I think this would be a real help to local consumers.

Also, I bet Amazon could do very well here.

Of course, AMAZON was a total fail in China, even though it seems they tried hard.

Maybe their problem was that they chose the wrong guys with whom to cooperate....there in China.

Whoever was running the operation in China did not give it the old College TRY!

It depends what you buy, Amazon follows the actual tariffs.  Computers etc. are low tarrif and bedding is insanely high.

Yes.

Re Bedding, I found that out, just today.

I guess beds are not important in Thailand, since most people just sleep on the wooden floors.

And cover themselves with grass mats, presumably.

Did you not look for a Cat 8 Lan cable in another thread? You will get them on Amazon.

No, this is my first mention of Cat8 (in this thread).

OK. I will look on Amazon.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I like to buy from Amazon!

Better customer service.

Better price.

Etc...

Ikea has the best prices on bedding in Thailand, I have found.  I am happy with the mattress protector I bought there.

OK.

I have not tried that store, yet.

But, I will definitely check it out.

I want good quality, similar to SERTA, etc.

Not only bedding, but all textiles are high duty, because Thailand has a large textile industry to protect.

So then...

Pricing for bedding is artificially inflated here?

Where do the profits go....anyway.....

To the workers?

Bedding made in Thailand supports the factory owners, the factory workers, the distribution network owners, the distribution network workers, the wholesaler owner, the wholesaler workers, the retail owners, the retail workers, and they all pay taxes.

So...

Too expensive, as a result of this long chain of needless people.

This is what happened to Japan.

Too many in the loop.

Prices SKY HIGH!

We need Amazon here, PDQ!!!

I also do not care about coffee-bean growers.

Does that make me a leftist?

If impoty duty is due why is it unfair for them to add to the cost at check out ?

Why is it unfair when you are expected to pay your fair share?

Retailers in Thailand have to pay the duties on imported products, yet you think you should be able to circumvent the taxes, effectively cheating the Thai people. How is that fair?

It's not the fault of Amazon, of course.

It's the tariff itself that I object to.

Have you never heard of FREE TRADE?

Or, is this a concept you are against.

No.

I just want the same quality I would get buying from Amazon in the USA, at the same price I would pay buying in the USA.

What....

You want to pay through the nose for lesser quality products????
