Thaksin Ready to Fight in Criminal Court Over Section 112 Case

Thaksin Shinawatra appeared in criminal court for an evidence examination in the Section 112 case filed by the Attorney General. Thaksin expressed no concerns and is prepared to fight the charges.

 

At 8:00 a.m. on August 19, 2024, at the Criminal Court on Bangkok's Ratchada Road, a hearing was scheduled to examine evidence in the case filed by the Office of the Attorney General against Thaksin Shinawatra under Section 112 of the Criminal Code., reported Khaosod

 

The case involves an interview Thaksin gave to South Korean media in 2015, which allegedly contained references to the monarchy.

 

Thaksin has been granted temporary release on bail set at 500,000 baht, which he secured with a bankbook. The court has imposed a condition prohibiting him from leaving the country without court permission.

 

Today, court officials set up metal barriers to designate areas for the media near the courthouse steps and established a table for media registration. Security at the criminal court remained normal, with additional support requested from the Metropolitan Police Bureau 2 and court police officers to assist.

 

Thaksin's personal lawyer, Winyat Chartmontree, arrived at the court but declined to give any interviews to the media.

 

Initially, the court did not permit the media to attend the hearing but designated a waiting area at the front steps of the building.

 

Later, at 8:50 a.m., Thaksin arrived at the Ratchada Criminal Court and stated that he had no concerns and was ready to fight the case.

 

When asked by reporters if his yellow shirt had any specific meaning, Thaksin simply responded, "It’s obvious."
