Nothing ridiculous about it.

All UK forces have specialist armed police officers they can and do mobilize if needed.

However, most officers are not armed and the police themselves don’t want to be routinely armed.

UK policing is by consent, calling the police to attend domestic disturbances, neighborhood disputes and cops performing traffic stops or any number of routine police interactions with the general public do not, as in some parts of the world, ever end with innocent members of the public being gunned down by a cop enforcing their authority with a gun.

https://www.forbes.com/uk/advisor/life-insurance/what-are-the-uks-most-dangerous-jobs/#:~:text=Police officer%3A with 13 deaths,in the police was risky

So your a police officer  in a country area going to a disturbance and a bloke pulls a gun... In Australia thecops  pull their gun....in the UK......run !🏃

Imagine being in a country area of the UK and doing a vehicle stop at night ...I seen cops in Australia have their hands on their guns...in the UK ..I guess their pepper spray?

I do agree that "we are but a spec in time." I think our time will end much sooner than 50 million years. I'd say more like 500 years or so. And I also do believe that 99 percent of the species that have ever existed are now extinct. That's the result of the process we call "evolution." But, "we" (humans) are worth talking about because "we" do have something to do with the process of evolution.

I sum all that up in the last section of the last chapter of my book, The Icarus Syndrome (books2read.com), which is the story of "The Starfish on the Beach." You can read that story without having to read my entire book (which I'm sure you won't do) on the following link: The Tale of the Starfish — The Starfish Foundation (thestarfishchange.org).

And, yes, I do favor socialism and the state owning and assigning use of all assets.

That may be so, but the problem is that "we" (humans) think we know we do exist. We think that we're the most important thing in the universe, and everything else only exists to fulfill our desires. That's called "hubris," and is the message of the myth of Icarus and his wax wings, and also of my book, The Icarus Syndrome (books2read.com). Hubris is one of the three causes I describe as our (humans') continuing destruction of the Earth's biosphere. All three causes are related, and the other two are technology and overpopulation.

I wouldn't trust you either. Especially with a forum name like Doctor Tom. Do you have a YouTube channel? 😆

The fact remains. Whether you trust my dog or I trust you is irrelevant to the case.

From recollection the dogs visible through bars in front of the camera lens.

Yes as the house extension was being built we decided that welding machines and steel cutting machines do not mix with super friendly dogs who want to lick every worker on the face.

Hence as a responsible owner i controlled him while they were working.

Any other pearls of wisdom today? Or are you opting for quantity over quality again ?

Didn't you post pictures in another thread that showed the dogs caged while people were working at your place, or was that another member?

They must be really softies if they need caged when people are around

Yes.

For the fourth time, any responsible owner would keep their dog away from workmen using power tools at ground level.

It's simple common sense. Which is why liberals tend to miss the point and I have to repeat it. 😃

UK: 3.3 guns per 100

Australia: 3.4 guns per 100

Number 2 in the world for gun ownership is the extremely safe country of Yemen, with 50 guns per 100.

Really?

  • “147,140 firearm certificates on issue, a 3% decrease compared with 31 March 2022

  • 500,894 shotgun certificates on issue, a 4% decrease compared with 31 March 2022

  • 516,500 people who held a firearm and or a shotgun certificate, a 4% decrease compared with 31 March 2022

  • 3,106 temporary firearm permits and 8,062 temporary shotgun permits; figures on temporary firearm and shotgun permits are included in this release for the first time.”

So let’s add them all together:

651,140 Fire arms, shotgun or temporary fire arms permits.

Dividing that into the number of the population 66,97 million gives a gun owners ratio of 1 gun per 102 people.

Yes really. You just quoted the number of certificates, not the number of firearms, and it seems decided not to look properly at the page you copy pasted. Use the quote function to properly format for the forum.

Quote

5. Steady increase in average number of weapons covered by firearm and shotgun certificates continues

As at 31 March 2023, an average of 4.2 firearms were held on a firearms certificate. This compares with 4.1 as at 31 March 2022 and is the highest average recorded since 2009 (when comparable records began). The average number of firearms held on a certificate has shown a steady increase over the past 15 years, with the lowest being 3.1 as at 31 March 2009.

As at 31 March 2023, an average of 2.7 shotguns were held on a shotgun certificate. This compares with 2.6 as at 31 March 2022 and is the highest average recorded since 2009 (when comparable records began). Between 2009 and 2020, the average was between 2.3 and 2.4 and has increased in each of the last 3 years.

Despite the small increase in the average number of firearms and shotguns held on certificates, the total number of firearms covered by certificates on issue decreased by 1% (-5,221) to 615,627 as at March 2023, and the total number of shotguns covered by certificates on issue decreased by 2% (-27,127) to 1,340,452 as at March 2023.

Firstly your page is for England Wales, not the UK, so you used the wrong population. You've not realised that there are multiple weapons per certificate. The exact number of weapons is not known, so you have to use the Home Office averages. Now, likely the temporary certificates are just for a single weapon.

Certificate on issue Average weapons per licence (Home Office and Assumption) Total weapons, est, 2022
Firearms 147,140  4.20  617,988
Shotgun 500,894  2.70  1,352,414
Temporary Firearms 3,106  1.00  3,106
Temporary Shotgun 8,062  1.00  8,062
      1,981,570

    England 2022 Estimate 57,106,000
    Wales 2022 Estimate 3,132,000
      60,238,000

Guns per 100, England, Wales 3.3

Slightly older numbers from the BBC

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58198857

Which for 2021 give  for England and Wales, 617,171 firearms, 1.4m shotguns, and in Scotland 70.839 firearms and 133,037 shotguns.

This is inline with my estimate, and considerably more than your ludicrous estimae, which was based on a pretty basic misunderstanding of simple data.

This June 2 pit bulls strayed off from somewhere and running amok killed a random 50 year old woman on the street in West Baltimore.

No surprise with these canine time bombs.

And the poor neighbors having to listen to them barking and fighting, even from a distance, some people put dogs before humans they don't care if their lives are ruined by noisy dogs. Does one not need permission to keep 20 dogs ? That would be illigal where I live, thank fork. Even 5 is too many. Max 2 is what it should be. IMO

Apart from guide dogs and sniffers they are all bloody pests to most people, apart from the doggie worshipers who own them. Something very odd about people who cannot live without dogs stinking the house out and yapping all the time. They do not 'love' you, all they love is food.

I have a dog that stays with us, he knows better than to come inside, and is quiet, even when neighbor's 5 dogs kick off. He will sit for food, he will only bark occasionally to let me know if a stranger enters the property, he is free to roam, but only stays in our small Soi and causes no problems. he must always carry a leaf for some reason, and I know if he is barking at someone, as soon as he picks up a leaf, then he will be OK.

I saw a demented dog with a muzzle kept by food stall owners

Walking around off lead, sneak up and  to bite a guy on the back of the legOld and sick, struggling. Anybody could tell it should have been put down

Your old chums pitt bull should be no problem  in a marketplace muzzled or not muzzled. As long as it it well "trained" and "properly kept".
