Any advantages to retirement over marriage visa?
There is no 'retirement' or 'marriage visa as such. You apply for the Non Imm O visa for the reason of retirement or Thai spouse. Both will grant a stay of 90 days on entry. Your Non O visa is now invalid, but your Immigration status is Non Immigrant. You cannot extend a visa, you apply to extend your 90-day permit of stay for 365 days for the reason of retirement or Thai spouse. The extension based on retirement requires 800K deposited in a Thai bank account in your sole name, for 2 months prior to the date of application. The 800K must be maintained for 3 months after the extension is granted, after which you can make a withdrawal, but must maintain a minimum balance of 400K throughout the rest of the year. The extension based on Thai spouse requires 400K deposited in a Thai bank account in your sole name, for 2 months prior to the date of application. After the extension is granted, you can withdraw and use the full 400K. Other differences for the 1-year extension applications are documentation and processing times. -

Trump Harris: Who won the debate ?
You are whining because your Leader bombed. Rather than whine, provide specific factual mistakes the moderators made. -

Trump Harris: Who won the debate ?
That is not the moderators job. No one is saying that fact checking should not happen.- 1

PM Paetongtarn's Policy Statement critisised as Echo of Thaksin’s Vision
Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra makes the policy statement at parliament in Bangkok, Thailand, Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024. (AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit) During the parliamentary debate on the policy statement delivered by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, People’s Party MP Sirikanya Tansakul criticised the newly unveiled plans, arguing they largely mirror the ideas previously promoted by Thaksin Shinawatra, the de facto leader of the Pheu Thai Party. Sirikanya highlighted that the policy statement strays significantly from Pheu Thai Party’s campaign promises. Instead, she noted, many of the Prime Minister’s initiatives echoed points made by Thaksin in his recent speech, suggesting the current government lacks originality and autonomy. "The statement is no different from former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s policies, with broad objectives but unclear goals," Sirikanya commented. She also pointed out the absence of the highly anticipated 10,000 baht digital wallet project, a key campaign promise, and questioned whether the government still plans to implement it. Thaksin had addressed 14 issues on 22nd August, and 11 of these were repeated in the policy statement, including the digital wallet project for "fragile groups." According to Sirikanya, this trend reflects a recycling of policies from the Thai Rak Thai Party, founded by Thaksin in 1998, and led until his ousting in the 2006 coup in Thailand. “This isn’t just consistent; it’s akin to AAA+ on Miller’s Pyramid of Assessment. It’s about responsibility being handed down rather than innovation,” she remarked. Sirikanya expressed concerns that future cabinet meetings might become mere formalities, with significant decisions being made by outsiders to the official government structure. She added that she seeks a Prime Minister who radiates her own brilliance, comparing the ideal leader to a shining star rather than a mere reflection like the moon. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira later confirmed that the first phase of the 10,000 baht digital wallet payouts would begin on 25th September. The initiative targets 14.2 million people in vulnerable groups, injecting 140 billion baht into the economy. Pichai acknowledged Thailand’s economic slowdown over the past five years, stressing that immediate action is necessary to prevent further decline and to initiate a path to recovery and growth, reported Thai Newsroom. -- 2024-09-13 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe -

Phuket Named World’s Most Overcrowded Destination Amid Tourism Boom
They come over here, taking "ARE 'olidays!" What an arrogant and perverse sense of entitlement. THhs is a racist perspective - the Russians Chinese and Indians aren't at fault - the Thai ruling elite are - Tourist numbers are still 20 to 25% lower than immediately before Covid. What has happened is regardless of any conservation of resources those who run tourism in Thailand have grabbed as many customers as they could and crammed them into the traditional tourist hot spots - so the density there is out of all proportion to old numbers when tourism was distributed over a far wider portion of the country. Even government ministers have been saying that other areas should be trying to get more tourists in - but they can't. Remember too that it is much cheaper to fly to Thailand from Russia, China and India than it is from US or EU. I havebeen sayingfor nearly a year now that centres like Pattay and Phukt are suffering form over tourism - but don't blame other countries, it is THailand that is to blame THailand aleways goes for the lowest common denominator. -
