Man Attacks Store Owner with Iron Pipe in Samut Prakan
BANGKOK - September 13th, police officers from Mueang Samut Prakan Station, together with rescue teams from Samut Prakan Hospital and Ruam Kuson Samut Prakan Foundation, responded to an assault in front of a grocery store on the main path of Soi Tai Baan 17, Tai Baan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan. At the scene, Ms. Muey (surname withheld), aged 63 and the store owner, was found unconscious with a head injury and a severe laceration behind her ear, bleeding profusely. The responders provided initial first aid before she was transported to Samut Prakan Hospital. A blood-stained metal pipe was also found at the scene. The perpetrator was identified as Mr. Suthep, also known as Tom (surname withheld), aged 33, who is the nephew of the injured woman. After attacking his aunt with the pipe, Mr. Suthep attempted to flee but was apprehended by nearby residents. Mr. Suthep's statements were incoherent, resembling someone under the influence of drugs, so the authorities took him to the police station to calm down before proceeding with the legal investigation. Picture courtesy: Daily News Further background checks revealed Mr. Suthep had a history of drug involvement and was recently released from prison for theft just 2-3 days prior. He also had a history of psychiatric treatment. At the time of the incident, Ms. Muey was watching television in front of her store when Mr. Suthep suddenly struck her with the pipe, rendering her unconscious. Nearby residents promptly surrounded and caught him, then handed him over to the police. TOP Picture courtesy: Daily News -- 2024-09-13 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe -

In a dramatic and dynamic statement, the new PM stated, "Concern Over Floods in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai'. Then she went back to bed. Never mind, she thought to herself, as she slipped back into sleep before dreaming of all the important things Daddy wants her to do, "The water will drain away eventually, nothing here to see". zzzzzzzzzz! -

Trump Declines Further Debates with Harris as Election Nears
Former President Donald Trump has made it clear that he has no intention of participating in another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris before the upcoming election. In a social media post on Thursday, Trump announced, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE,” effectively closing the door on any further face-offs between the two candidates. This announcement comes despite Harris's assertion that the candidates "owe it to the voters" to engage in another debate. Speaking at a campaign rally in Charlotte on Thursday, Harris emphasized the importance of addressing key issues in another debate. “I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate. Because this election and what is at stake could not be more important,” she stated. Harris highlighted her focus on issues that matter to Americans, including reducing the cost of living, supporting small businesses, protecting reproductive rights, and ensuring national security. In contrast, she accused Trump of failing to address the needs of the American people, claiming, “it’s all about him, it’s not about you.” Trump, however, has defended his performance in the previous debates, despite reports that some of his allies and campaign aides privately admitted the outcomes were less favorable than they had hoped. Following the Tuesday debate, Harris’s campaign immediately called for another debate, while Trump questioned the necessity of a rematch, asserting that he had won the first two rounds. Nevertheless, polls suggest that the general public perceived Trump as the loser of the debate. In several posts on Truth Social, Trump has continued to insist that he emerged victorious from the debate and has criticized ABC News, the network that hosted the event. While his campaign has encouraged others to publicly declare his dominance in the debate, there are private acknowledgments within his team that it was not his strongest showing. During the debate, Harris repeatedly challenged Trump, even mocking the crowd sizes at his rallies and suggesting that his supporters often leave early out of boredom. Trump responded by defending his rallies and reiterating a false claim about immigrants in Ohio, a rumor that local officials have already debunked. Interestingly, despite his refusal to engage in further debates, Trump’s campaign had initially expressed interest in another debate, with spokesman Brian Hughes mentioning that they had hoped for an event on NBC News later in the month. Following the last debate, Trump’s confidence appeared high as he skipped the post-debate "spin room" where candidates typically address the press. However, after this most recent debate, Trump did visit the spin room, a move that some interpret as an indication that he believed Harris had performed well. Meanwhile, Harris has sought to build momentum from her debate performance by campaigning in key states. On Thursday, she introduced a new slogan, “A New Way Forward,” during her rally in Charlotte, emphasizing her vision for a "new generation of leadership" that she argues is needed to move the country beyond the divisive politics of the Trump era. Despite her efforts, polls indicate that Harris faces challenges in presenting herself as a candidate for change, given her role as Vice President under President Joe Biden. In Charlotte, Harris underscored her message of optimism, vowing to improve the lives of everyday Americans and restore hope, contrasting it with Trump’s more negative outlook. The rally was marked by strong visuals, with large signs displaying her new slogan, “A New Way Forward,” flanked by giant American flags and patriotic decorations. The predominantly female audience, many of whom wore green stickers with the message “We’re not going back,” signaled a continued commitment to the issues Harris has championed throughout her campaign. Phuket Named World’s Most Overcrowded Destination Amid Tourism Boom
Id like to know where they get their information from. For a start the article mentions the 300 baht tourist tax, which has yet to be implemented, and the top three destinations all being Thai looks fishy to me. No mention of certain Greek or Spanish islands and major cities.. I think the data may be based on a ratio of tourists to locals. It is well known that Phuket's so- called population is undercooked as most residents are registered elsewhere in Thailand. That's probably true of Pattaya and Krabi too. Phuket is overcrowded in high season but so are many others. Worst in the world? I doubt it -

Foreigner Steals Taxi While High on Cannabis, Crashes into Lamp Post
You have to smile at all the deniers and obvious users of whatever drug sucks their boat. They say anything to make everyone believe that drugs are good and 'safe' to use. Maybe they should just own up to addiction, look closely at themselves and admit that their little lives are ruled by whatever drugs they take. Let's face it - they can't live without it! Yes, It's called addiction! Never taken them - never needed to in 80 years. But I can enjoy an occasional gin & Tonic, or a beer, or a glass of wine now and again, without feeling the need to steal a taxi! All I have to do is sit back, and patiently wait for the deniers to tell me all about alcohol being 'just another drug'. -

Storm Wreaks Havoc in Nonthaburi: Canopy Blown Away, Power Poles Collapse on Vehicles
Picture from responders. Nonthaburi was hit by a severe thunderstorm on the evening of September 12, causing significant damage throughout the area. A commercial building’s parking roof covering collapsed and was blown into the street, taking down power poles and crushing vehicles. The local hospital, Phra Nang Klao, had to rely on backup generators as the storm damage caused a widespread power outage. At approximately 19:30, the Nonthaburi Municipality's disaster prevention and mitigation team received a report about a collapsed roof covering that had fallen on cars parked in front of Phra Nang Klao Hospital, located in Bang Krasor, Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province. Combined withheavy rainfall and powerful winds the falling roof, led to several power poles collapsing onto vehicles, damaging over ten cars and motorcycles. Mayor Samanuek Thanadechakul was informed of the situation and dispatched Deputy Mayor Apiwat Phetruang, alongside local police and electricity officials, to assess the damage. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a two-story, ten-unit commercial building with a metal roofed parking area behind it. The strong winds had ripped the roof off, causing it to crash onto cars and motorcycles parked on the roadside. Additionally, three power poles were knocked down. Municipal officials were forced to temporarily close one side of the road while workers cleared the debris and power company officials cut the electricity to begin repairs. Apiwat explained that the illegal extension of the building's roof was to blame, as the powerful winds easily lifted and destroyed the structure. The resulting damage caused an immediate power outage in the area, forcing Phra Nang Klao Hospital to switch to its backup generator, as it lost all mains power. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Electricity officials took 5 hours to fully restore power to the area. -- 2024-09-13 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe
