I loved my time at that "small little town", Montreal, while at McGill.

My time at McGill was probably one of the most memorable periods of my life.

At the time, I had a cat, a black cat, which almost fell out the top floor of my dormitory.

She was just barely holding on to the outside ledge by her puny claws.

Fortunately, I saved her.

She thought it no big deal.

At that time in Montreal, guys would think almost nothing of pissing up against any wall on any given main-street in the city.

And, some guys, would walk down the street copping a feel from girls with big mammaries.

One female classmate of mine came back one afternoon, all in tears.

She had been groped on the street, by some well-intentioned passerby.

Those were the days, back in 1972.

Montreal is probably not quite the same, these days, though....

That was a different age.

Trump would have loved it in Montreal, back then, I guess.

My older brother used to call me "bird-brain" when I was a kid. What an ahole that guy was and still is.

So you have friends in Chiang Mai? I'm talking about real world, not imaginary internet-land AN friends.

Your aquaintances on AN would rob you in a dark alley if they could, anyway.

Yeah, the good ol'd days when groping a stranger was acceptable!

'Tis the season for it, this month of August.

Send us a few photos....

Dear Friends (not YOU!),

No.

This Topic is for my Finely Feathered Friends, the Thai Myna Birds that flock to me...naturally.

Some say Mynah and some say Myna, but all birds of this type are my friends.

When I first arrived in Thailand, I was unable to venture forth from my rooms.

It was only the myna birds that kept me company for months, and months, while wheelchair-bound.

Nobody in Thailand smiled at me, because, I guess, most people here, or anywhere, find it awkward to talk to someone in a wheelchair.

So....

I have not forgotten my friends, these birds.

And, they, in turn, have not forsaken me.

They always come back to stay with me, when they will.

Why do I so much love mynah birds?

Here is a nice video, one which speaks to their vocalizations, vocalizations, many of which, I have come to know the meanings of, no matter what they say to each other:

You might be surprised just how upset they become when they spy a brown snake, or a green snake, and they know the difference.

Also, it is the myna bird that is the animal most intelligent of all the animals I have come to know in Thailand.

Thailand is such a special place.

And it is the myna bird that makes Thailand so special.

Taiwan has no myna birds, of course.

Not sure, but I just wonder if the Taiwanese ate the last of them, many years ago.

What I would really like is to have a few myna birds in large cages placed out on my porch/veranda....but....

I would never do this because....

All mynas should be free to roam, and come and go, as they like.

Truly, it is the Thai myna bird which has contributed so much to my enjoyment of Thailand, during these recent many years.

Also, I like the cats owned by my neighbors, the ones that come and lie around, lying flat, for a few hours of an afternoon.

I look forward to next year's HOT SEASON, when the mynas will be more active, and the cats more lethargic in their heat-induced lethargy.

Cats and Birds, I love them both.

Just how much communication, and at what level, occurs between the local birds around here....I can say....a LOT.

What is your favorite bird in Thailand....anyway?

The thing I like best is to see myna birds HOP.

They never walk.

Best regards,

Gamma

Note:  Regarding the Physiology of the Bird Brain.....some members here might know more about this than others.

But, my question is....How can the Thai Myna Bird be so smart when their brain looks something like this woodpecker brain?

Unfortunately, I have been unable, so far, to find a CT scan of a Thai myna bird.

Perhaps I will be able to have one scanned, if I pay a few baht, next time I am at the local hospital.

Well, at first I thought you would talk about those lovely birds which many of us take to their hotel room. Sorry.

Sorry to know that you're sitting in a wheel chair. My dog and I would be able to visit you from time to time. Cats would be an obstacle.

And I agree with your description of those birds. We have a lot in our garden and trees.

No worries, Sir!

I am happy to report that I am no longer in a wheelchair.

I was able to recuperate from a hip fracture that kept me wheelchair-bound.....almost a decade ago.

These days, I am fit as a fiddle.

Of course, I am also thankful that I was able to make the journey to The Grotto, where they exposed me to the holy water, and, this helped me to, almost miraculously, stand up and walk, almost instantaneously.

Before the Pandemic visited us all, I was walking up to 21 kilometers a day, in the afternoons, round and round CMU.

What a wonderful campus has CMU, I must say.

IIRC mynahs are otherwise known as rats of the skies. Or is it seagulls?

Leftover chips on the Brighton Beach pier used to send the seagulls into a frenzy.

No, it's pigeons.

Sorry. Not this topic. In your 'Do you like Conrad' You advised me to read something to know what woke means. I did and liked it, but your post is now blocked when I try to read it again. Can you please send it to me again? Thankyou.

Do you mean the Noam Chomsky interview in which he speaks about the actual historical meaning, and present-day meaning, of "Woke"?

If so....here is the link...

Enjoy..because....

Unfortunately...Noam is really getting up there...in age...

And, we are unlikely to see too many more interviews with Noam, in the future,,,is my guess.

Thought Young was born in Toronto and grew up in Winnipeg. Never heard of a small town. Fished in Manitoba, April Wine a favorite group, and Gordon Lightfoot a favorite folk singer from Ontario. The Comatose Brothers have a good rendition of Harvest Moon with AJ Lee.
