Is Ubon Ratchathani beautiful city and area?

I've been around Isaan many times but never to that city.

I like green fields, parks, rivers, lakes and mountains. Is there any of that? No need for night life or farang stuff.

Otherwise, weatherspark,com show quite nice weather, not as hot as most places in Isaan.

The border crossing is a big plus too.

Why am I asking? Woman... of course.

It's the place I intend to go and live when I'm finished with Bangkok. The area has all the things you want, perhaps excluding mountains, and the city itself is easily livable. With the airport and also easy access to Pakse a bonus. Last time was there hired a taxi for the day and did a loop including Pha Taem National Park (excellent) and Sam Phan Bok (Three thousand holes - no, not like Soi 6!) and several nice temples. Good roads, not busy.

That's where I stay and it is really nice. Close to the park for a wander and the nightmarket too. And a great Izakaya resto/bar immediately opposite.

I liked it. For a tourist big enough to feel you are in a city but small enough not to lose it's charm. Probably too small to live unless you are happy with your lady. Nice areas on waterfront. Can be really hot. Can recommend the candle festival normally in July. Nice things to see near Pakse.

The women from there seem to be a more beautiful, whiter and taller than their shorter and darker Burirum/SiSaket/Surin cousins.

The Tawang Deang beer hall there is the largest one, very good place, wrong way pub is not bad. See Saw was the best club there from the 60's but closed a few years ago.

My friend has rubber tree plantation. She said trees can be up to 40 meters / 131 ft tall and they live up to 50 years old.

Is that profitable business / investment? Google doesn't know...

She lives close to small mountains. She said, when child, they had many small rivers with fish but now all are dried up. Ground water is deeper too.

The best girlfriend I ever had was from Ubon. More than looks, she had a genuinely beautiful heart. And so easy to live with.

It is not attractive apart from the river. Just the usual mess of a city. Would not want to live there. The northern cities are more interesting.

Just been to UR Immi and I must say "The Best"! No need to go to Laos since 30 days is enough for me.

So friendly, polite, fast and no waiting for 30-day extension.

I had Isaan gf with me and that added to smooth process but I've no doubt they are nice to all farangs.

After years of Jomtien "services" I thought I'd gone to heaven... but I'm alive.

PS. After clean and modern airport things went down a bit. Not much to see and not too clean streets etc.

Hotels are cheap but street food not to Jomtien level in quality. Still OK. Temple markets are huge and great.

Fresh fruits are great and low prices.

Last but not least; Isaan gals are super nice! Very interested in getting to know old farangs like me.

PS. There's Ubon Art Fest 2024 going at Yuu Cafe & Hotel (nicest place in town?).

Ubon "Yuu Art Show 2024" was great! Great street food too. Anything from cheap chicken to expensive lobster tail.

Nice to see so many young people doing arts and very well in Ubon. Yuu Cafe was absolutely packed. FREE entry,

Band members were so young. Played 70% of US classic rock. Tonight more the same 🙂

I stopped looking dirty street and run down properties and focusing nice things.

There's plenty to like and people are SO nice!

I may stay here for an other week. 550B a day 4 two with made-to-order breakfast and bowl of rice soup is bonus.

Yes, I enjoyed my visit to Ubon.

I went to Pha Taem National Park.

I tried Tam mua, if I remember, in a park that becomes a food market in the evening in Ubon city centre.

I could imagine living there.

Perfect question. Yes the province of Ubon is really nice. We were just up there over Christmas and had just a great time. Here are a few photos of our 5 day trip.

First off we stayed the first two night in Trakan Phuet Phon a small amphur north of the city. My close friend Dang has just moved back from the states to retire there, built himself a nice place. We stayed in the gray guest house.

Then continued on to Chong Mek on the Lao border to visit Sirinthorn temple, and see the strange rocks they used that shimmer florescent green after the sun goes down. Great view of Sirinthorn lake from there.

Then touring the area to see the rapids on the Moon river, the spot where the Mekhong and Moon meet known as Song Sri as one river is brown the other bluish.

The last night at Blue Moon River Resort a quiet and cute place in Amphur Paibun where we relaxed, ate, and drank red in the cool 18 degree evening right on the river.
