Late at night on August 30, a fire engulfed and completely destroyed the sermon hall at Wat Sarawan in Ban Tha Kham Pae, Moo 9, Chalong Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chaiyaphum Province. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

The fire was reported at approximately 23:30, prompting a swift response from five fire engines dispatched by the Chalong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), nearby SAOs, and the Chaiyaphum Municipality Fire Department. Firefighters worked tirelessly to prevent the blaze from spreading to other parts of the temple, but the fire completely consumed the two-story wooden structure, which was over 40 years old.

The sermon hall, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire, contained various essential items belonging to the temple. The fire went unnoticed until it had fully engulfed the building. Monks residing nearby detected the smell of smoke and rushed to the scene, only to find the hall ablaze.

Local residents, awakened by the smell of smoke, gathered near the temple in large numbers to witness the event. Despite the firefighters' efforts, it took approximately 60 minutes to bring the fire under control, by which time the hall had been reduced to ashes.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit due to aged electrical wiring within the hall, which might have been damaged by rodents. The police and forensic team from Chaiyaphum Province are scheduled to conduct a thorough investigation on the morning of August 31 to confirm the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
