Thai police officer allegedly rapes 17 year old girl in Chon Buri
I agree. I used to have the 'idea' than IF a girl came back to my room with me, then it meant she was 'open for anything to happen' and thus was fair game for a bit of nookie... BUT... that it no way meant I was right and all the decisions remained mutual... and I did in fact bring GF's back to my room after dinner, but they but the kibosh on proceedings at a 'certain base' and thats perfectly within their right - I'd be very wrong to push things further. What we’re discussing here, though, is something far more disturbing. This situation involves a vulnerable young woman, and a policeman abusing his power and authority for his own selfish and morally reprehensible reasons. There's no comparison between the two. -

Where can I find a very competent watchmaker? Not a battery changer.
I took my 1992 Raymond Weil to Jacks watches on soi Bukhao/central Pattaya road for a full service as it had not worked for 10 years (flat battery). They did an excellent job and 5 years later it's still somehow ticking on the same battery 😀 -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
Woop-di-do This is hardly big news nor any significant revelation, for months now many law firms have been quoting the letter of the TRD regulations, if asked, they will happily show you where it is listed in the TRD rules. This is where there is a difference between a law firm and a tax accountant firm The law firm will follow the letter of the law and advise on that, (they cannot be wrong, but following their advice may well make you unpopular with the TRD) The tax accountant will follow the requirements of the TRD officers they present accounts to and have been advised by. Because this is Thailand it is not any revelation that the letter of the law and the practice are different You must decide which advice to follow, I am certainly not going to tell you which I am going to do, nor am I going to make any recommendations You conveniently forget the advice given by at least one of the big 4 major accounting firms, not the mention the personal advice given by numerous TRD officials. But you do you, of course you are going to do that anyway -

METV or Visa Exemption for multiple short-stay entries? (+ internal flights).
Certainly an option however marriage to Thai could change things depending on when the date to marry. You can change from visa exempt entry to non O marriage in Thailand at any time. -

Opening bank account with DTV (share your stories)
I note Tim K you posted about experience in Phuket. My post is a bit off topic, but when I was on a non-immigrant Type-O visa a couple of years back, I opened a few different accounts with Krungsri (branch in Central festival in Phuket) with no problem. It was not difficult at all - although I note the Bank Manager at that time was a friend of my wife (where that manager has now moved to a different branch in Phuket). I also have a yellow book/pink-ID but I don't recall being asked for that to open the Krungsri account. I also deposited a moderate amount which I think helps the Bank Manager who can show they attracted new customers who deposit a bit more than the average amount. I like the Krungsri account for if one keeps a total of 5-million THB in the bank (in different 'forms') with the Krungsri Exclusive, one obtains a LOT of perks (use of their VIP lounge, 2 passes to Thai Airways lounges every year + 2 Dragon Pass lounge access passes every year), plus 8 passes every month to two different health clubs in Phuket (Club Asia (in Royal Phuket City Hotel) and Alpha Club). The main reason thou for me opening a Krungsri account at the time was I could get yearly printouts (needed for the Type-O visa year extensions) much quicker than I could from Bangkok Bank. The 'total' amount in the bank can be in different currencies, mutual fund via the bank, etc ... (it need not all be in cash). Obviously that perk is NOT something of interest for most, as many on a Type-O prefer NOT to even hold 800k THB in a Thai Bank. With a substantial amount of money in Thailand now, it also means I don't have to worry about bringing money into Thailand for a number of years, until this entire 'tax residency' speculation aspects are more clear. Back on topic : While I don't know anyone personally on a DTV visa, I am reading this thread with interest, and I hope more people with a DTV visa post on it and share their experience. I have many friends who don't live in Thailand often pepper me with questions and its nice to have a bit of information on other visas. A DTV might be suitable for some of them. -

METV or Visa Exemption for multiple short-stay entries? (+ internal flights).
Given your situation and travel itineraries, a METV is the way forward. It's valid for 6 months, multiple 60 day entries. If you enter just before the 'enter before' date of the visa, you'll be granted a further stay of 60 days. Possible to stay for almost 9 months with a 30 day extension. I take it you plan to marry in Thailand in the not too distant future? At that point in time you should consider the Non Imm O visa based on Thai spouse, extend the permission of stay for 1 year and obtain a multi re-entry permit (3,800 BHT). Come and go as you please within that 12 month period. Requires 400K THB deposited in a Thai bank account in your sole name, for 2 months prior to applying for the 1 year extension of stay based on Thai spouse. -

Stuffy nose - is it monsoon or not
with all due respect, show me where the OP seeks medical advice. All i see is them asking others if they are experiencing similar issues. Which it would seem we are. I see no point in going to a doctor and likely receiving an unnecessary course of antibiotics for something that seems to be a temporary seasonal irritation. -

White House Rebukes False Claims Amid Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts
I rate MTG as dimmer than the light in my store cupboard and that died out 3 weeks ago. She is certainly not bright enough to walk and chew gum at the same time. -

Affordable Self Storage In Bangkok?
If you are staying at a hotel and plan to return to the same hotel, can't you just 'leave a bag' with 'left luggage' at the hotel ? I've done this in numerous countries... leave a bag of kit I don't need there for a weeks / month etc and pick it up later (though never valuables and not in Thailand). -

Where can I find a very competent watchmaker? Not a battery changer.
Mr. Jacks' on Soi Buakhow Just before it meets Central Pattaya Rd (Pattaya Klang) is more well known for sales but can do watch smith work. Downside is highest prices of the three different shops I have used in Pattaya. The shop on South Pattaya Rd (Pattaya Tai) has the best prices of the places I've been to but also the least competent. Not terrible, but not great either. For simple repairs or battery changes he was ok. The shop I would recommend is Bombs Watch Repair Shop in South Pattaya on Soi Khopai. Better prices and quicker than than Mr. Jacks. It is a one man shop and he is often not open during the hours stated on his facebook page. Late afternoon is usually a good time to go or just call first. Bombs Watch Repair Shop -
