Wife transfers from dependent visa to Retirement Visa in case I pass away before her.
No idea what charges you incur for a direct wire transfer, but you should compare those charges against using 'Wise', which the majority of expats use for transfers. Transparent site, low cost fees and good exchange rates. Yes. Transfer 65K per month to a Thai bank account in your wife's sole name, and she qualifies for an extension of stay based on retirement (50+) in her own right, not as a dependant of you. The 65K per month can be immediately withdrawn and used for expenses. -

LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
Unclear, but the best bet surely at this time. I do know I can officially bring money in now without fear of owing any tax, that is reason enough and for me and the main reason. 50k is nothing for that peace of mind. The 10 year multiple entry etc etc is just a bonus (and cheaper). There are other ways to move world wide income around to avoid the CRS/FACTA reporting back to Thailand if it ever got to that, that's got to be better than uprooting to another country for me. -

5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
@oldmanofindonesia, confirm. I just checked their website, and it only offers appointments for December 2025. It looks like a bug to me because I remember that when I made my appointment in August, I could easily find a slot within the next 3 weeks. I suggest you either wait until they fix the bug (if that’s the case) or try the Thai Embassy in Hanoi, as their website offers slots in September. @Dart12, $340 is the official fee for the DTV visa application at the Thai Consulate in Ho Chi Minh city. Apparently, flights, lodging, and living costs are extra. -

Swift endorsement turns more voters from harris than it attracts…
Trump saying this nonsense, that babies are murdered after birth, I can't fathom why he'd say such a stupidity. However, it is very clear that in Minnesota the thing they were very subtle about was to remove the duty on doctors to use life saving measures and ensure now that only "care" is required. You have to understand that before a doctor was obliged by the law to do all life saving measures possible. Now, no longer. He, the doctor, and the mother can play God. Of course this won't happen a lot, because people are not insane, but in law this is the state of affairs. This is bad, and the Democrats did a very bad thing in allowing abortion without any gestation period limit. I mean this is completely insane. No civilized country in the world has such laws on abortion. -

Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
Do you have a problem with me thinking something or having a particular belief? "FWIW I think an AVERAGE spend of 65k per month across all long stay visa holders is far too high". And I suppose you do understand how averages work, don't you! In order to have an average of 65k, there would be highs and lows that went well above and well below that figure in order to arrive at an average of 65k. That would include the circle of people you know and a lot of pensioners on the maximum UK State Pension of 221 Pounds per week, which is only 41k baht per month. -

Bangkok Unveils 'Good Walk' Zones in Phra Khanong, Bang Na
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is set to transform Phra Khanong and Bang Na into a pedestrian-friendly area, hoping to foster a healthier, greener lifestyle. Deputy Bangkok Governor Tavida Kamolvej announced the ambitious plans during an event at Ban Jirayu-Poonsup Library on Sunday, September 15. The initiative, a part of the Walk-Ride-Run campaign, is organised by Chulalongkorn University's Urban Design and Development Centre (UDDC) in collaboration with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth). The plan leverages the strong public transport links in the two districts, making it easy for residents to ditch their cars. Tavida outlined the scheme to create 'Good Walk' zones, aiming to encourage walking, running, and biking activities. As a pilot programme, it marks the first step in the city's broader mission to enhance liveability. The UDDC and ThaiHealth demonstrated their vision by hosting various activities on Sunday morning. Participants began at 7am and followed routes designed for different fitness levels. Walkers enjoyed a 2-kilometre stroll passing landmarks like Iam Sombat Market and Suan Ploen Phakhanong Park. Cyclists embarked on a 20-kilometre ride, while runners tackled a 12-kilometre course, weaving through key areas such as Udomsuk Road and True Digital Park. This initiative represents a significant move towards a more pedestrian-centric urban environment, inviting Bangkok residents to embrace a cleaner, more active lifestyle. Don’t kill the golden goose! Tax reforms may drive away expats
Well of course the country doesn't run on expats, but a lot of small communities are greatly helped by the money that they spend, mom and pop shops hiring laborers supporting all the businesses in the neighborhood. Thailand as a country will not be hurt by expats departing but a lot of people will be. I have several people that I hire on a regular basis and if I leave they loose my financial input.
