An Asian girl to die for?: Definitely. Definitely one of Brando's more interesting films.

Here is a very strange FACTOID:

According to IMDB....

Kathrine Hepburn was originally asked to play the part of Hana_Ogi.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, she turned down the part.

Instead, luckily, Miiko Taka was chosen to play  Hana Ogi.

She was perfect for the part.

BUT, IF Kate Hepburn had been chosen to play the part of Hana Ogi in Sayonara....

Then, I think it would have been equally good to have Godzilla play Hana Ogi.....

I guess we all recall Kate Hepburn in The Good Earth, trying to play a Chinese Woman....with her fake slanted eye(s).

Such a gruesome sight!

Such disfigurement !!!

So gruesome !!!

Godzilla, the Jap Monster, was prettier than she.....!!!!!

Sayonara ...

Sayonara ...

Gamma Goodbye.....

IMO Americans have made many attrocities due to putting white people into Asian parts. Never forget how they stabbed Bruce Lee in the back by putting David Carradine into the series Kung Fu. I was always puzzled that David never looked in the least Asian to inspire the dislike.

Ahem....

I thought that was what we were here for.....?

==================

But, back to your meaning....  Yes. I find westerners playing roles meant for Asians to be most objectionable.

LOL. Now of course, in these woke times it's black people being put into white people parts. I never knew that there were black aristocracy in Elizabethan times till I saw the movie about Mary Queen of Scots.
