Flooding in CM?

There is no doubt that the Ping River is very high as here are shots taken this morning from the Chansom footbridge and the Nawarat Bridge....

There's no mud or dirt by Kad Luang (commonly referred to as Worarot Market) so it would appear that there was no river flooding there.  And my guess is that the flooding that occurred at the night market was from heavy rainfall versus river water (again, there's no dirt or mud there).

There's no doubt, though, that there was some river flooding south of the Nawarat Bridge, mainly on the east side of the river.  Saw some photos of what looked like flooding on the Chiangmai-Lamphun road; however, the photos also showed some traffic on that road in that location so it couldn't have been too deep.

I hear there is flooding in Chiang Mai city.  Anyone know where the River Ping is coming over the banks and what roads may be closed?

CM-Lamphun rd in the wat ket area north of nonghoi is closed. Chanklan rd to the padat mahidol underpass is flooded. A lot of gawkers out tying up traffic. The usual areas and roads are flooded in the haiya padaet areas. Just avoid the usual areas.

Water levels rose again during the night. Water flooded moobans to the west of Chang Klan RD centering around/off  Wiang Ping RD south to Mahidol and north to Kad Kom market. That would also be west, south west, of Chiang Mai Mother and Child Hospital.  This area did not flood in recent years, 2011 or 05 would have been the last time water made it this far.

I'm told by friends who have a business on Chanklan that the flooding is from underground sources, presumably via the  drainage system.

Tried to get to Dukes yesterday but gave up as I walked on the Iron Bridge. The water was about knee high at 100 PM in the area of Rimping.  Also, on Chang Klan the water level was about ankle high from where Bangkok Bank was.  Also, the bank was closed.  The rain last night sounded like a steady drizzle.

Water pushed through Chiang Mai land, from Changklan and over Mahidol HWY. The east bound lane is the most affected with traffic backed up from here to the Airport 4 way.

Picture was taken on the HWY next to the McDonalds .... CM Land RD is 40 meters further up ahead.

Avoid both sides of the Mae Ping streets back about 1/4 mile. Major roads open but Lamphun Road from Centara to the North, same on opposite bank, Chang Klan flooded.

It would be nice if the gawkers stay out of the area and not clog up the roads, people are having a difficult time trying get out due to the excessive traffic of which is mostly gawkers.

Yep, we thought that too, crowds of people hanging around the main bridge.

Loads of slow moving traffic driving along by the side of the river.

Guess they're waiting to see it overflow the walls.

Was in the park opposite Kawili fort (between Au Der Auf and KhuaLek cafe) just now. Park full of soldiers, river very high. Soldiers say it's gonna flood later today.

Just got back home along that road.

Kawila barracks placing sandbags along their gates.

Soi leading to Rimping supermarket has sandbags up to waist height - no going in there!

People along the road placing sandbags in front of their properties.

River now up to the bottom of the bridge near Centara Riverside.

Thanks for the update. If you are aware of any developments, can you post an update here? I am due in CM next week and due to spend the first week in Riverside Hotel opposite the Iron Bridge. May need to think about an alternative hotel?

Tried for lunch at KhuaLek cafe today, closed due to flooding.

My misses insisted we immediately left the area as it was too dangerous.

Ended up having a fish burger at Chester's in Airport plaza as being closest to immigration for after lunch.

That was going to be our first port of call after dropping the bags off and before a medical appointment at Sripat Hospital.

As Riverside Hotel sits as low as or slightly lower than Khualek that does not bode well for my intended stay.

Thanks for the update.
