The government has initiated the distribution of a 10,000-baht cash aid to 3 million needy and disabled citizens. This is the first phase of its digital wallet program. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra formally launched the program this morning (Sep 25), with funds having been transferred at midnight. The program aims to assist 14.5 million people, but the first phase targets 3 million due to some limitations in the PromptPay payment system.

Welfare cardholders, who are about 12.4 million in total, and 2.1 million disability cardholders are given first priority. The government will keep disbursing funds to qualified individuals for the remainder of September. Beneficiaries can track their fund status using the "Rath Jaii" app, developed by the Comptroller General’s Department.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat mentioned that the second phase of the digital wallet scheme might be postponed until after the new year due to ongoing system development. Still, 186 billion baht has been set aside in the 2025 fiscal year budget to support the continuation of the program.

Suggested initially by the Pheu Thai Party as part of its strategy to stimulate the economy, the digital wallet program plans to distribute 450 billion baht, allotting 10,000 baht each to 45 million citizens. The current phased rollout ensures that state welfare recipients and people with disabilities get their payments first, provided they are registered with the PromptPay system.

And the poor old lady next door to me does not have a phone.

She is not a very happy bunny. :annoyed:

If she has a welfare card she should have received it already. The FIL (no phone) and other family members did.
