N Korea Sends Troops to Support Russia in Ukraine: Seoul Warns of a "Grave Security Threat"

South Korea's spy agency has reported that North Korea has begun sending troops to aid Russia in its conflict with Ukraine, a move Seoul has described as a "grave security threat." This alarming revelation comes a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky suggested that as many as 10,000 North Korean soldiers could join the war, citing intelligence reports.

In response to these developments, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol convened a security meeting, urging the international community to respond with "all available means." According to South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS), 1,500 North Korean troops have already arrived in Russia, with some estimates suggesting that the final number could reach up to 12,000. This comes amidst increasing evidence that North Korea has also been supplying Russia with ammunition, including a missile found in Ukraine’s Poltava region.

"The West can not stay silent. It is time to make a move."

The growing cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang has been evident in recent months. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un recently congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his birthday, referring to him as his "closest comrade." This camaraderie between the two nations has raised concerns, particularly as North Korea continues to provide military support to Russia.

At the security meeting, officials from South Korea's National Security Office, the Ministry of National Defence, and the NIS discussed the situation. Yoon's office released a statement saying, "[The participants] decided not to ignore the situation and to jointly respond to it with the international community using all available means."

The NIS's allegations follow reports from Ukrainian military intelligence suggesting that Russia is forming a unit comprised of North Korean soldiers. On Thursday, Ukraine’s spy chief Kyrylo Budanov claimed that around 11,000 North Korean infantry troops were training in eastern Russia and would be ready to fight in Ukraine by November 1. "They will be ready [to fight in Ukraine] on 1 November," Lt Gen Budanov stated, adding that the first group of 2,600 soldiers would be deployed to Russia's western Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces currently hold several settlements.

Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a bill to ratify a military pact with Kim Jong Un, promising mutual support in the event of "aggression" against either nation. This development further underscores the strengthening of military ties between the two countries.

South Korea’s NIS has also reported that North Korean troops are currently training at Russian military bases in Vladivostok, Ussuriysk, Khabarovsk, and Vlagoveshensk. Aerial photographs of these locations have been released, showing gatherings of North Korean soldiers. Additionally, a photograph of North Korea’s Chongjin port reportedly shows a Russian ship carrying North Korean troops.

The NIS revealed that since August, North Korea has sent 13,000 containers filled with shells, missiles, and anti-armour rockets to Russia. It is believed that around eight million 122-mm and 152-mm shells have been supplied.

However, some military experts question the effectiveness of incorporating North Korean troops into the Russian frontlines, citing language barriers and the lack of recent combat experience among North Korean forces. Valeriy Ryabykh, editor of the Ukrainian publication *Defence Express*, commented, "They could guard some sections of the Russian-Ukrainian border, which would free Russian units for fighting elsewhere. I would rule out the possibility that these units will immediately appear on the front line."

During the build up to the first Gulf War with Iraq all the media was on about their tanks and massive army, fourth biggest in the world, Republican Guard.

And on paper it looked impressive. But they weren't

Now you have an elite group of NK soldiers with pictures of them marching in perfect formation in fancy kit.

Have to learn precision formation marching for display to dear leader.

But does the fancy kit exist, has it been tested? where did it come from? what kind of combat arms training do they have?

What are they actually supposed to be trained in, besides marching

All things to be determined in the fog of battle

Lots of unknowns.

Surely this is now a red line crossed and Biden will allow Ukraine to use its long range missiles into Russia. This is a huge escalation by Russia, not only using NK military missiles, shells etc but now major numbers of NK foot soldiers. NATO, wake up!

How are some foreign soldiers fighting for Russia a red line yet foreign soldiers fighting for Ukraine isn’t? Ah yes, hypocrisy of course.

The confusion rests with you, foreign fighters have been fighting for Russia for over two years the same way Ukraine has been utilizing its foreign fighters. This is an individual state, North Korea that is now joining in with Russia, understand now? Doubt it,

There is no confusion, just hypocrisy as usual from the collective west.

Also no evidence that NH, as a state, is sending soldiers to fight. Even NATO says so.

The bigger problem now is that the extent of the relationships are proven. They involve quid pro quo if NK wants to attack the South and if Xi wants to make a move on Taiwan, at a time when US supplies to Israel and Ukraine are already overstretched..

I didn't realize you didn't know that NATO and the Pentagon are one and the same.

As for videos, western made ones. Show me some NK and Russian made videos. Those are more credible, imo.
