She is probably 15 now... sometimes she can walk, often she cannot.. her neck is a bit twisted... no apparent immediate pain but surely not comfortable either... very sad. This has been her condition for a year now... her bottom has turned a black/brown color.

My wife mentioned getting an operation for her, but that will be painful and whatever she has, she will not get younger. She is a village/home dog and does not like to go to the vet or even go in the car. I have not seen her in 3 months but last time the vet gave me some vitamins which actually seemed to help. Is there anything we can do? I know the vet will not euthanise her... if I were back in the USA I would think it was about time.

What to do? What to do?

This is a hard one....

I know a few vets who want to perform Euthanasia. They are locally considered as "Bad veternarians" while for me they are heroes....

If the dog really is suffering try to perform euthania yourself. The most friendly way is with any kind inert gas. Lock the dog in a closed room with a fire from charcoal. Or any available gas, like Argon, CO2, Helium. These gasses will cause a very fast coma, and a very fast painless death....

It all are sad advises....

Good luck!

Thanks - that thought entered my mind but even with a cooperative vet, just making the decision would be difficult and would haunt me for a long time. The body fails, the heart beats on - - same for us aging folks, I guess.

A difficult time when a best friend is unable to lead a decent life.

I have had to have two 'friends' put down.

One through age - couldn't walk or stand.

The other through illness - constant pain.

The only thing that helps is knowing that they are now both at peace.

My understanding is that if the dog has no record at the vet's surgery, then the vet cannot obtain the relevant drugs.

Good luck in your decision making. I hope that the dog does not suffer too much.
