An old British friend tried getting a job as an English teacher in Vietnam (he's a properly qualified teacher). He was 58 at the time and thought that his age (too old) was what counted against him. I think the retirement age is 60 in Vietnam. He never got the job.

If people want to work (past retirement) then good for them...but they should not be forced to by some government changing the rules midstream/moving the goalposts ... there seems to be plenty of money to spend on war  but not enough for the pension pot  that people have paid into for years working hard expecting to be able to put their feet up in later years to enjoy "other pursuits" or just laze about doing sod all...instead they face a miserable existence  of high energy costs,taxes,taxes,taxes, high food costs,taxes on inheritance they might want to pass on to children  etc etc. 

The thing is yes people are living a bit longer than 50 years ago......But hardly anyone is living to 100 and even by 90 the heard starts getting pretty thin with plenty of people not making it through their 80s....

 

But the powers that be never tire of repeating that people are living a lot lot lot lot longer...

 

They want badly to push the retirement age up to 70 every where...And who knows how high after that...

 

They hate paying out retirement money...

They don't seem to apply the same logic when life expectancy stagnates or falls though.
