Thailand raises retirement age to 65 for all sectors. 

 

That means More money for the Government  that they don't have to pay out  even if it's only Thb 600 per month .

But it ads up in the long term X amount of  people times  5 Yrs .

They (those in government who decide this) should be ashamed to expect more from workers who have worked all their lives for and to serve those who rule for slave wages.

A bit irrelevant, as the average life expectancy of someone born 65 yrs ago is only ~54 years old 

 

Born 60 yrs ago, and it's ~57 yrs old

Relevant as the current life expectancy in Thailand is 77.92

Yes, you can see some villagers into their 80s, but have you seen the younger people living in the towns, suffering from diabetes? It’s easy to see, they will never reach the age of 65.

Then this government plan will work perfectly.

It would be tough if there is  no transition i.e. those 59 still get it at 60 - maybe those at 55 get it at 61  etc  Couldn't see that noted.

I should be interested to know how 'street vendors' will be registered to be included for Social Security which requires monthly contributions.

OK, so these figures will be way out, but lets assume there are about 40 million thais currently working, and due to pre 65 age death, 800,000 reach retirement each year. If the age of retirement is increased to 65, 4 million jobs will need to be added to the thai economy ABOVE the current employment merely to stand still over the next 5 years !!!

 

So unless idiot governments al over the world come up with employment plans ahead of increasing the retirement age, then you could well be building up youth unemployment

I think the maximum contribution is like 9,000 baht per year, so its not like the contributions are all that high either.

65 years is still to low. 75 years is much better retirement age.

 

65 years are just for lazy low lifes 🤣

A retiree is entitled to OAA (600 to1000b per month) and SSA  (20% of monthly wage last earned.)

So why come up with the stupid question "Thais actually work?"

I suspect another large part of this is the continued falling birthrate… kind of like South Korea.. they’re going to be in a situation where they are far more people drawing FROM the system than there are paying INTO the system.. so they’ve got to do something such as pushing out the retirement age (ie delaying when you can draw from the fund), up the tax rate on those working and paying into it, and/or cutting back on the benefits drawn from it.. 

60 was far too young for compulsory retirement.

 

Now it's 65, can they please apply this to MPs😁

Farm Worker, shop girl/ sales assistant, construction worker,  bank or office worker . Thank you.

Do the poor old age living on the streets get anything ?
