A fire broke out at 06.30 on October 28, at the residence of a recently deceased monk at Wat Samrong, Moo 8, Saan Chao Rong Thong Subdistrict, Wiset Chai Chan District, Ang Thong.

District Chief Apichat Srihera received the report and promptly arrived at the scene alongside police and local fire crews from Wiset Chai Chan Municipality, Phai Chamsin Subdistrict, and Saan Chao Rong Thong Subdistrict, dispatching a total of four fire trucks and rescue personnel from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

Witnesses report seeing flames emerge from the door of the dwelling of Phra Wichai Puangbanyen, 47, a monk who passed away just two days prior. The fire engulfed the structure, leaving it completely in ruins. Firefighters worked for approximately 60 minutes before successfully extinguishing the flames.

While no injuries or fatalities occurred, the monk’s quarters and surrounding areas suffered severe damage. Locals have speculated that the late monk’s spirit might wish to remain in the space, adding a layer of mystique to the incident.

Deputy Inspector Banjob Choisiriket from Wiset Chai Chan Police Station and forensic investigators are examining the scene to determine the fire’s cause.

IMO More like other monks or the abbot set fire to it to get rid of the spirits. Especially if he died in there.
