Right, but not only that. China's authoritarian regime threatens the sovereignty of the EU within its own borders (think of the illegal overseas Chinese police stations found in Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Ireland, etc., but also in the United States, Canada, South Korea, Japan, etc.).

China's hegemonic ambitions in Asia and the South China Sea pose a threat to free trade and navigation.

Communist China (and Putin's Russia) consider any democracy a threat to the stability of their authoritarian regimes. They actively engage in destabilizing democracies by deploying tools of unconventional warfare.

Lol. I didn’t think that anyone is gullible enough to swallow the western propaganda pumped out by the politicians and media but I guess I was wrong. Secret police stations? Indeed.

China doesn’t have hegemonic ambitions. Their main interest is to trade as this leads to prosperity and if you know anything of Chinese people and Chinese culture, this is their overriding priority. Threatening free trade is akin to shooting themselves in the foot. I have lived and worked in HKG and China and Singapore and Malaysia and have known many Chinese people from all these countries. Many of my relatives are also married to Chinese people and I’m well assimilated into their society. Like me, they are incredulous at how some westerners can be so gullible and ignorant as to believe what they read in western msm.

The west, in particular the US is afraid of China’s growing influence and power. A classic example of falling into Thucydides’ trap. They have been preaching that their “democratic“ ways and “values” are the best and China comes along with a socialist system with Chinese characteristics and this is proving more successful than anything the world has ever seen. The country that engages most in “unconventional warfare” is the US, through its thousands of think tanks, NED, USAID etc. They’ve even specifically budgeted over a billion dollars for this.

But carry on believing what you want. Like the Chinese, I don’t impose my views or values on others.

When the Western World would finally understand how much taxes ( wage, company profit, dividend) and contributions to social welfare they export by purchasing Chinese goods , everybody would immediately sstart to think about the prsoparity of themselves and their (grand) children, and would buy only "local" goods. Unfortunartely all think ONLY of the here and now, so continue to transfer their "make" industry abroad.

I’m sure if the western world can produce the goods locally as affordably as China, they will buy local. Unfortunately, they are unable to and prolonging the conflict with Russia will merely continue to keep energy prices high, making locally produced goods more expensive.

I must have missed that Russia invaded an EU country. Did you even read the headline?

Because Russia invading Ukraine after lying that it would not do so gave the EU a warm fuzzy feeling and there was no need for them to feel unsafe and stock up on essentials?

However:

- we don't know how China would be if it never was 'socialist'. It may be more developed than the current level. Actually, the development of China is correlated with a decreasing level of socialism.

- Chinese has enjoyed an impressive development, indeed. However  most of its knowledge base has been imported, in one way or another, from the 'democratic' countries which created this knowledge.

- it's a question of size and it's like dominant positions in economic regulation.  China will become too powerful to assume it will not abuse its dominant position one day.

- it's governed by a communist party, and  communists always want to 'control'.
