Thai Med Students Fight Licence Scam; Education Agencies Accused

In a shocking revelations, a Thai medical student, known only as A, has stepped forward, accusing several educational service agencies of overcharging her and 20 fellow students studying in the Philippines and fabricating documents necessary for medical licences in Thailand.

 

A, who dreams of practising medicine, has tirelessly gathered evidence, which she submitted to the Foundation to Reclaim Social Justice on 31st October. According to her, these agencies enrolled them in a university whose certification by the Medical Council of Thailand had lapsed, preventing them from securing medical licences upon completing their studies.

 

The agencies demanded 30,000 baht for securing these essential licences, a stark contrast to the official 15,000 baht fee. While A and most peers refused to pay, some succumbed, gaining licences through counterfeit documents.

 

Determined to stand her ground, A plans to file a formal complaint with the Medical Council of Thailand, focusing on uncovering any corruption within the Council itself. The vice president of the foundation, Raphatsit Pattarasirichaisin, has vowed to scrutinise the university's certification and push for action to ensure that medical qualifications remain merit-based, safeguarding patient safety.

 

This unfolding scandal raises significant questions about the integrity of educational and licencing processes within the medical field, impacting future Thai doctors and, ultimately, the health of their patients.

Just another case of corruption. IMHO (fairly sure I'm not alone on this one) every govt dept has corruption. This country is so bent it's not funny. Corruption from the very top down. Corruption is totally endemic here.

Or she dreamed to get international license and work as a doctor somewhere else?

 

Thai student will travel to Pinoy-land to enjoy tagalog/phinglish-spoken lectures?

There's something is missing - I guess it is very old "buy uni. diploma online" scam.

When was it? About 20 years ago?

Corruption is just the way of doing business here in Thailand and the very very top to the very very bottom everybody wants a piece of the pie no surprise here and my first came here a teacher told me it student would pay her and she’d write their report so they can get their masters degree TIT

However, it's probably not limited to the medical field.

So she went to the Philippines to study medicine and get a degree for $ 500 USD and the college in PH had their certificates expire. Then the college in PH tried to scam the students for an extra $500 USD for fake documents. Now she's complaining and blaming Thailand. Part of the info in this story is missing as usual. Did I miss something here?

Many phi university are not much better than the scam uni here students don't have the grades but will pay to get docs.  My question is Is she qualified to practice in the Philippines. If not that would be my first clue

I'm not entirely clear on this article. Did those medical students cheat and/or bribe through corruption to get through med school? Or, after successfully completing their studies they had to pay corruption money to get their degrees? 

 

Also, would any of those graduates be capable of passing first rate med school exams in the USA? Like, from Harvard for example.

International medical license. Is there such a thing? 

 

I'm aware of many people who completed medical doctor studies abroad but local authorities would not accept and had to complete 2 or 3 years study in LOS at a Thai Med. school and pass to gain a license to work as a dr. in Thailand. 

 

Aware of one farang who completed Ph.D. at a uni affiliated with MIT in the US, but local gov't ministry would not accept the Ph.D. because not gained at a Thai uni. And no uni in Thailand offers any studies in that subject. 

 

The guy concerned went to SIngapore and approached the appropriate ministry who instantly provided a certification through the National Uni. of S'pore that the Ph.D. was accepted in Singapore.
