Israeli Employers Fly to Chiang Rai to Recruit Thai Workers Amid High Demand

Israeli employers traveled directly to Chiang Rai to recruit Thai workers, with a huge turnout of applicants eager to prove their skills. On November 3, Thai reporters observed bustling activity at a recruitment event held at a wooden building near the entrance of Chiang Rai Rajabhat University in Muang district.

Organised by Wi Dragon Co., Ltd., this recruitment drive specifically seeks skilled labour for construction jobs in Israel, including carpenters, metalworkers, plasterers, and tile installers.

In a show of support, Thai comedian Klua Chernyim joined the event to encourage both the applicants and their families. Despite recent reports of the risks involved, such as the recent conflict in Israel that resulted in the deaths of four Thai workers and injuries to another, the atmosphere remained energetic, with applicants lining up for the opportunity to work abroad legally through Thailand’s Department of Labour. Clear signage outside the venue highlighted that the positions are legally sanctioned and open to men aged 25-45, with consultation services provided onsite.

Mr. Marius Savescu, a senior engineer representing an Israeli employer, explained the high demand for Thai workers in Israel, where currently around 95,000 foreign labourers are employed, including 20,000 Thais. He praised Thai workers for their skill, diligence, and resilience, noting that these qualities make them particularly sought after. Israel plans to increase its intake of Thai labour, seeking an additional 3,000-4,000 workers this year and potentially up to 10,000 more in 2025. Mr. Savescu assured applicants of good working conditions, including free accommodation, healthcare, and other benefits alongside their wages.

Klua Chernyim expressed his encouragement to applicants and their families, commending their enthusiasm and seeing the recruitment as a positive opportunity for skilled workers from Chiang Rai and surrounding northern provinces. He highlighted that it offers a pathway to improve their lives if they have trade skills or driving qualifications.

This event marks the second time Chiang Rai has hosted an Israeli recruitment center, following a successful session on October 13, 2024, which paused recruitment upon reaching its target number of workers. Chiang Rai previously saw 2,174 locals employed in Israel in 2023. However, following the October 7, 2023, conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas, three Chiang Rai residents lost their lives, one was injured, and two were taken hostage before being safely repatriated. Since then, many Thai workers have returned to Thailand.

They´re in need for cheap workingslaves.....

No. They're paid wages that they freely agree to or not. Not slavery more than any paid job.

Must be paying this so called "skilled labour" a hell of a lot to go there

A lot is relative.

Obviously the offers must be good enough to attract people or no workers.

Their contract can be sold to another employer.

People objecting to this, is it because it's Israel?

At an earlier time in my life I was looking to work in India but no bites.  I would have welcomed being recruited.

I'm really at a loss as to why people have a problem with people freely agreeing to an employment contract whether in Israel.or Timbumtu? Haven’t most all of us accepted job offers in our lives?

If you're saying the pay and conditions should be better then that could make sense.

I've done contract jobs where I felt I was both underpaid and overpaid. Such is life. Messy.

Must be costing a Thai a pretty baht to get authorisation from the Thai labour ministry

Not following.

If paid agreed salary not slavery.

Are you a communist?

Slavery because their "Master" can sell their labour without their consent. I don't know of any European country where that can be done.

First question should be: If I am injured while working in Israel will the employer guarantee medical care and transport back to Thailand?  Might want to get this in writing. Also, will I get continue to get paid if I am taken hostage? It is fine to take a job in many places but one should get some of guarantees in writing.

They’re planning to resettle Gaza, more settlements in West Bank? Pipe dream. The way things are going with hundreds of thousands fleeing isreal and losing the war, the regime may disappear before the work visas are granted.

Slavery, that's what.

Thais want to go to Israel because of the high wages there .

Thais are leaving Thailand where the minimum wage is about 10 000 Baht a month and going to Israel where the minimum wage is 54 000 Baht a month .

How can it be slavery, when slaves don't get paid at all and Thais will be getting at least 54 000 Baht a month in Isreal ?

That is not the issue, they are going of their own free will. My issue is that contracts can be bought and sold without their consent.

It was something that emerged after the Oct 7 murders of Thais. I can't remember where I read it and did not feel it necessary at the time to go through the statuettes of the state of Israel as the source seemed credible. i don't file everything i read for future reference, I make a judgement at the time as to credibility.

That is called an Agency , its not called slavery

I have never heard of an employment agency selling your contract without your permission countries other than Israel, although I am sure it exists  maybe Bangladeshi labour in Arab states. it is not a developed country thing.

You need to back that claim up, its quite likely that you misunderstood .

If you cannot back that claim up, you need to stop repeating it .

Israel has very strict laws for migrant workers .

So, can you back your claim up ?

Last I heard Israel isn't in the EU. But they are in Eurovision. I assume the contract says the contract can be sold. Reminds me of my mortgage which was sold four times and they all made money on me but it didn't change the amount of payment.

I suspect you probably just hate Israel and are looking for ways to trash them.
