At tops you can not get a discount on items if you are not a member. I do not shop often at Tops, so I never bothered. I am happy that cashiers scans whatever they scan so that I can get a discount.

you're NOT paying for the priviledge of a membership ..  so who cares ?

if they had use one of their mate's membership card, it'd show in the receipt which you can check

 

I've seen the barcode taped to the register - it's for when the customers don't have membership or temporary visitor card - they even have multiple ones for the category of customer- individuals, restaurauteuer or shops I think so it's probably for their own record keeping

 

all this is dependant on being able to read what's printed in the card taped there and on your receipt, in thai of course
