Council slums?

“The government recognised that the current Affordable Homes Programme is almost fully committed but has asked Homes England and the GLA to prioritise social rent when allocating the remainder of the Affordable Homes Programme funding.

The Secretary of State recognised that councils and housing associations need support to build capacity and increase supply. She stated that the government would announce plans to ensure stability around social rents at the next fiscal event, as well as committing to setting out details of future government investment in social and affordable housing as part of the next spending review.”

So you do not know what the allocation is!

  • You think these people who cannot afford to pay rent can afford to buy homes?   House prices are astronomical in the UK. Largely due to a massive supply and demand issue caused by the influx

Redirecting money from supporting rents to building affordable homes makes sense.   Far too much tax payer’s money is being piped through to the pockets of buy to let landlords.

  • Students apparently.  They are putting up the University fees.  This one makes me chuckle though as I can almost feel the anger from the blue haired Hamas supporting leftists all the way over here aft

Wasting your time with Chomper.  He simply doesn't comprehend economics and human nature.  He just wants to let all of us  know how concerned he is about the poor and my bet is he has never volunteered a minute of his time to truly help the needy.

He is labour through and through and NOTHING you say, especially facts, will change that mind set!

Immigrants who are renting homes in UK come to the UK , in the most part, to work. They don't get handouts.

I would say, 8 out of 10 migrant families in my properties do work and do get handouts, if you include Housing Benefit and other benefits I'm sure they are entitled to, as most seem to be on pretty much minimum wage, even after 10 years or more of being here.

One family with a total of 11 grown up kids between them, both in their early 50s don't work anymore and now claim PIP.  They also understand how the system works and seem rather comfortable.

The post I replied to was referring to immigrants newly arriving. Those who are, apparently, creating problems with housing. Those on visas. They cannot claim benefits, as per visa rules. They also cannot be on minimum wage, unless they are working in excess of 50 hours a week to meet salary requirements for their visa. The salary requirements for visas also pushes them above the threshold for qualification for benefits.

You mention being here for 10 years or more. They are not the issue. They also still cannot claim benefits unless they have been through the 5 year visa process and have applied for and been given UK citizenship.
