Amidst rising concerns about school practices in Thailand, allegations of misconduct at two educational institutions in Chachoengsao and Nakhon Ratchasima have prompted investigations by the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC). The schools were scrutinised following claims of spoiled food distribution and excessive donation solicitation.

 

In Chachoengsao, it was alleged that a school served spoiled fruit to students. However, OBEC’s thorough investigation found no supporting evidence. Students reported they received adequate, safe meals daily. As a result, OBEC dismissed the claims as baseless.

 

Meanwhile, in Nakhon Ratchasima, the spotlight was on Chumphuangsuksa School due to concerns over donation demands for a school van. An investigation confirmed that donations were collected but clarified that these were voluntary contributions towards general school development, rather than for a specific vehicle purchase.

 

Last week's speculation on social media suggested undue pressure on parents to contribute via multiple donation envelopes. The school's director explained that the envelopes were part of a broader community fundraising effort linked to an upcoming event, rather than an obligation.

 

Following the inquiry, officials instructed the school to halt all solicitation activities and to communicate clearly with parents. The National Anti-Corruption Commission continues examining the donation process, aiming to ensure transparency.

 

The controversy highlights the delicate balance schools must maintain in managing funds and the scrutiny they face in upholding parents' trust.
