How are non-maga Americans describing yourselves to non-Americans that you meet now?

I have watched youtube videos of democrats decrying the election of Trump where those crying were claiming that they would be put back into slavery or, if white, claiming that blacks would again be enslaved.

This is the first I have heard/read that messages invoking slavery, were being sent to anyone.

I will follow this to see if law enforcement  discovers who was responsible.  I am curious if it will or will not be another fraudulent claim of racism from a leftist, as has happened in the past.

One person sent some E-mails , they shouldn't be given publicity whoever they are .

They should just be ignored and the E-mails binned and the sender blocked

Me too, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I don't know why you would write that. I did search for the news reports right after I read it.  Looks like it may have happened yesterday, based on a link to X with a date of 11/7/24.  Most links are for this morning.   I have only been on aseannow.com this morning and have not checked any news reporting.

I see it as a despicable act, regardless of who has done it.

The gold price is collapsing into Fridays' close along with the price of oil. This portends a recession and consequent asset price collapse. The market isn't liking the Trump victory outside of MAGA plays like TSLA and DJT.

Why do you post a link to nothing? I asked you for a link to your assertion that ONE person had posted the emails. Shall I post a link to green men on mars, will that help?

Just sending you back a link that you already posted above.

You posted the link and I reposed the link that you posted and sent ot back to you .

Ask yourself why you posted a link that says nothing

Why Americans chose a demagogue to helm their democracy may be partially explained by the fact that, in many ways, the United States isn’t a democracy any longer—and in many ways, that’s thanks to the Roberts court. Our system was never perfect; on a basic level, the US only became a democracy in 1965 when it finally gave all Black people the right to vote.

But for nearly two decades, Roberts and his colleagues have done immense damage to the underpinnings of the democracy Americans painstakingly built.

Whether it was 1 person or a few people, my point remains the same .

They should be ignored and binned and not given any publicity

So now you admit to posting misinformation or wild speculation?

It isn't up to you to decide if what he posted is "misinformation"!

That is malcomb's job.  He told me so! 🤪

He can't / won't support the assertion, ergo it is misinformation

   Stop misquoting me .

I didn't say *only *one person sent E-mails .

I said that one person sent E-mails and one person did send E-mails .

But some other people may have also sent E-mails as well .

But I was referring to the person that sent the E-mail  that I referred to

On individual longevity, Trump has just appointed a vaccine cynic (not a skeptic) to the WH. How's that going to work out.

That was untrue and misinformation , Trump hasn't appointed a vaccine cynic .

Your claim was untrue and false

OK, yes he has not yet appointed the nutter to the position but the link I posted id clarify "If". My money is that he does so. Trump will be a wrecking ball intending to dismantle government the same way as he appointed people as secretary to departments who were hostile to those departments remit last time. He intends to pursue the project 2025 ("I don't know anything about that") which means removing all barriers to unfettered capitalism and the oligarchs.

Just met a random friendly foreigner stranger in the course of daily life so we starting talking. In tourism oriented Pattaya, it's usual to ask nationalities, probably the first thing usually asked. So that's how.

That’s just a convenient rationalization. Living somewhere by choice for an extended period of time under a regime installed by a coup, which some people consider anti-democratic, etc. is somewhere between “endorsement” and “I don’t care about its negatives”.

Most of us don’t care about either of those labels and people should just do what they need to do in their own lives! But if you are going to talk the talk about a Trump administration being bad for… all the reasons people are quick to jump on President Trump, then not walking the walk elsewhere in life is a wee bit hypocritical.

Neither.

I live here like a VERY long tourist which is exactly how I'm regarded by Thailand.

I don't have RESIDENCY here and I have no path for that either so it's a moot point if I want it or not, because I can't have it.

I am not endorsing the Thai government or society NOR am I not endorsing them.

I don't care about the negatives because I'm not Thai.

Obviously I enjoy the positives, and have learned to filter out the negatives as much as possible.

You may perhaps correctly call me a "bad expat" and I truly don't care if you do as in a way it's a bit of a badge of honor.

If I was Thai, I would care very much.

Honestly I used to care about some particular civil rights issues effecting Thais, but then I saw that Thais themselves weren't doing much of anything about it, so realized it would be insane for me to care if the Thais themselves were just accepting the status quo.

This came up for me the other day and I wasn't sure how to deal with it.

Now that we know that the maga autocratic cult was not a one time fluke, that maga now represents who we are as a country for better or worse (worse) when we meet non-Americans if we don't support the maga cult, and the question of nationality comes up, do we just say Americans, or do we somehow try to communicate we're not "that" maga kind of American?

Of course I'm not talking about faking being Canadian, is that really fair to Canadians. I can't speak for all non-maga Americans, but I still love my national homeland and I'm not ashamed to be American.

But I'm ashamed of maga.

In some ways, I think all Americans have some complicity in maga happening, just as all Russians have some complicity in Putin happening.

I compare this to Russians now. You meet a Russian and most people will wonder, is this a Z Putin loving Russian, an opponent, or someone completely apolitical.  I look at Russians I may meet and tend to guess based on age, appearance, affect, etc. but not always right.

I have an appearance that could easily be maga (or not).

Thinking out loud, I guess the wisest way is to check for any reaction from new people that indicates they are wondering (are you a maga or not) and then easing into the discussion if they seem receptive.

Is there another way? I can't imagine just announcing, I'm American but I hate Trump.

Penny for your thoughts?

I saw 2 fellas the other day walking on Karon beach, both in speedos one holding an American flag pole the other a Russian flag pole.........

A fundamental principle of ecosystems is that a species must adapt to its  environmental changes if it is to survive.  The Republican party evolved and adapted to a change in its environment. Prior to the  shift to MAGA, the old Republican party was  slowly dying. It has now adapted sufficiently to attract voter blocks that previously had avoided it. Now it is invigorated and energized.

There is no denying that today's Republican party is abnormal compared to the party that existed 50 years ago.  However, sometimes, it is those abnormal changes that will result in a species' success.  As more and more MAGA affiliated or aligned candidates have succeeded, the abnormality has become the new normal.

Your position is one of not wanting there to be change, and of wanting  adaptation to the changed environment to stop. Soon, it will be the turn of the Democrat Party to adapt. The changes will most likely be abnormal to you too, but if the Democrats do not adapt they will soon experience the Republican devastation that  followed the Bush administration.  In US politics, 24 months is nothing. The midterm election cycle will start in 1 year. Change isn't so bad. It is how we  usually improve.

Change is not always good, dude.

The old republican party changing into an autocratic CULT of personality of following an unhinged criminally corrupt decrepit dictator loving demagogue is a classic example of BAD CHANGE.

The maga cult ideology includes greatly weakening the election system so that the opposition has no chance later. As in Orban's Hungary which the magadonians are gaga over.

If you like this, good for you.

To me, no decent American wants democracy to end in favor of autocracy (or fascism).

America, get ready for Donald Trump’s political apocalypse

Goodbye, democracy — it’s Trump’s America now

A story hard to believe as Americans tend to not wear speedos.
