A 52-year-old grandfather and his 10-year-old grandson were found dead after being electrocuted while camping in a tent outside their home in Udon Thani. The incident occurred around 18:30 on November 10, in the village of Ban Khok Na Khlong, where they were enjoying the cool evening temperatures.

According to reports from the Udon Thani Emergency Medical Response Centre, the authorities were alerted to an incident of electrocution at a residence in Ban Khok Na Khlong, Village No. 8, Nong Khon Kwai Subdistrict, Udon Thani Province. Responders from the local military hospital, the municipal medical team, and volunteers from the Udonthani Thamrak Foundation immediately rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders found the bodies of Mr. Chalard Meechai, 52, the homeowner, and his grandson, Suthinan Prachansri, also known as “Ice,” 10 years old. Both were lying unconscious next to a large metal fan and in a tent set up under an unfinished roof extension in front of the house. Mr. Chalard showed burn marks on his left hand, while Suthinan had similar injuries on his right hand.

Emergency personnel attempted to revive them through CPR for almost 30 minutes, but sadly, both were pronounced dead at the scene. Police Lieutenant Niwat Jangkrathok and a medical examiner from Udon Thani Central Hospital were called to conduct further investigations.

Mrs. Pranee the 50-year-old wife of Mr. Chalard and grandmother of Suthinan, shared that the family lived in the house together. After a typical evening meal with the family, Mr. Chalard and Suthinan decided to camp outside in the tent. Not long after, she heard Suthinan calling out, before suddenly going silent. Rushing outside, she found them unconscious and called for help. She mentioned that the fan had been used without issues in the past, making the tragedy even more shocking.

Suthinan’s mother, is currently working in South Korea and had left him in the care of his grandparents.

The bodies were taken to Udon Thani Central Hospital for autopsy as authorities continue their investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident. Police plan to conduct further interviews with witnesses to fully understand the circumstances of this tragic event.
