Maybe beautiful to see from outside, but waiting 1 hour for checked bags to arrive on the luggage carousel in SAT-1 is a case study in poor utilitarian function (usefulness) to the point of disgrace.

There is no luggage carousel in SAT-1.

I've heard airports called alot of strange things in my time ....  beautiful wasn't one of them   :drunk:

The new terminal at Doha airport is quite impressive...   that may change your mind.

Its the best Airport I've been to, followed closely by Singapore simply because its so organised.

I have to say, when comparing to all other Airports, Suvarnabuni is pretty decent...  better looking from the outside than inside as they've managed to make it an 'airy space' look compact and crowded.

The difference between Bangkok and NYC:

Trains are newer in BKK

Roads and Traffic are better in NYC

Everything is cheaper in BKK

I have been forced by various factors to fly in an out of NYC recently and JFK is horrendous although transport in and out of the airport is easy, and expensive.

Here is my airport list for international travel over the past three years.

Frankfurt: dingy, under construction, long walks, rude staff, depressing with all the Hijabs and machine gun toting Cops, including a blonde one that was so hot I started staring, and when she asked me in English if she could help me (yeah baby, rip off my clothes and take my virginity) I had to beg off and tell her I was looking at her MP5.

JFK: Huge and getting huger, good transport within airport to cut down walks, but its old and dingy and under construction.

Swampy: Nice and clean, well organized long walks between gates though

DMK: It works. Easy to get around, great transport to Downtown

Istanbul: Inflation, long walks, rude staff. Food is good till you get the bill.

Seoul: Heaven on Earth

Singapore: I've only walked from one Gate to another. I like their security setup (at Gates).

Dubai: OK, Ive only walked from gate to gate. I avoid Arab countries if I can, tough to keep my buzz going on the long trip.

Shanghai Pudong: Just freaking huge. Dont expect a fast transfer.

Paris: Its got French people.

Taipei: Horrible food.

Siem Reap: Huge Chinese boondoggle in the middle of rice fields, why in an empty airport do I have to walk past 17 empty gates? $80 DMK-SAI, then $25 into town. Yeah, thats the way

Agree with all of this - particularly IST which IMO is an outrageous rip off for everything, from food, to drinks and all the shopping...    its the only airport I've been to where you have to pay for the small baggage trolleys when air-side.

where you pick up for checked luggage

In the main terminal, same place it has always been. So you have clearly never used SAT-1. So why did you say this? You clearly just made it up as you have never been there.

No mate! I do appreciate it when comparing it to the miserable claustrophobic s*** hole that is my home London Heathrow airport which makes me feel ashamed to be British. I feel sorry for visitors having to use it. Suvarnabhumi is spacious light and airy inside. My only complaints are that it is so noisy and a bit hot sometimes , but I know where to go to escape these issues when waiting for flights.

If you like sterile post-modernism.

I like it. I've never had problems with the staff there. The toilets are clean and handy. I've slept overnight there and never been disturbed.

BUT at 78 years old, I don't like sitting on the floor in Departures!

Forget about the beauty nonsense, there weren't enough public toilets when it opened 18 years ago and TAT has steadfastly ignored the thousands of complains every year since then as there still aren't enough public toilets. Basic functionality always trumps aesthetics.

It takes way to long to get your bags if you fly into SAT-1. Upwards to 1 hour. Its a poor design

From the air, Suvarnabhumi airport looks like a couple of copulating caterpillars.

My kids always called it the caterpillar airport.

This is a nonsense result. The new terminal at Suvarnabhumi is very nice, but beautiful? Eye of the beholder, I guess.

Truly beautiful airports were the old Koh Samui and the old Siem Reap one in Cambodia for those of us that can remember.

No. You're absolutely right imo.

UNESCO is total BS.

It has been for years.
