Thailand's Ministry of Finance is poised to introduce a one-time cash payment initiative targeting the elderly, as confirmed by Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul. This proposal, amounting to 10,000 baht, will be presented during the upcoming economic stimulus policy committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 19.

And remind me of when the offer of 10K for your vote was made?

Payment will be soon they say?

Helicopter money, aka "putting out the (inflation) fire with gasoline".  People also become more reliant on the government and more inclined to go along with its dictates.

Seems like they're purposely punishing the typical Move Forward Party voter, who tended to be younger and able-bodies.  They promised 10k to everyone, but now the people who didn't vote for them are being left out of the payments.  First they sent it to disabled, and now they are sending it to the elderly, who are all more likely to have voted for a traditional party.

Printing money from thin air......because they can......

Potentially could cause very high inflation (10-20% increase+) in the coming month and will hurt thais in the long run

They should never give a lump sum as most will use it up within a week. They definitely should make monthly payments to help them but a one off payment will just not work.

I would have thought the elderly would have been the first to get the 10,000 baht  it seems this was not the case shameful !

This new measure specifically excludes state welfare cardholders and disabled individuals who previously received 10,000 baht in the initial phase of the consumption stimulus programme in late September.

I see no shame in handing out the monies to the welfare cardholders first. They are invariably the oldest and the most needy in Thai society.

Pointless.

Thailand needs a stable social safety net for these people.
