Revved up: Thai man’s motorcycle stolen in Pattaya

In a daring daylight heist, a Thai man’s motorcycle was stolen from a bustling city street in Pattaya, sparking concerns about a professional bike theft ring operating in the area.

 

The victim, 29 year old Komkrit Lukrathok, who works at a prominent electronics store, reported the shocking theft of his Honda Wave 125 motorcycle to the Bang Lamung Police Station yesterday, November 18, submitting crucial CCTV footage as evidence.

 

The video footage paints a brazen picture: a tall, slim man, likely with an accomplice, strolls up and rides off on the bike as if it were his own, without a second glance.

 

“It’s clear these thieves are no amateurs,” Komkrit stated, adding that their calm demeanour and choice of a busy area suggest they’re experienced. “They knew exactly what they were doing.”

 

 

Komkrit’s Honda, usually parked behind a local bank, was taken while he worked his shift, leaving him stranded and frustrated. He hopes local police will take prompt action to track down the bike and put an end to the audacious thefts plaguing the area.

 

“I just want my motorcycle back.”

 

With vehicle theft on the rise, residents are on high alert, waiting to see if Komkrit’s case will shed light on an organised crime network or if it was an isolated, albeit daring, theft, reported Pattaya Mail.

Certainly are but so are disc locks. I have had my honda wave messed around with on 3 occasaions obviously someone trying to take it till they realise there is a disc lock attached...the most stolen bike is Honda wave and one of the easiest

Even an Air-tag (or similar)...dedicated theft insurance is also relatively cheap...

 

but, this was probably a minimum wagers and 1000 baht theft insurance or a tag is a lot of money for them.

 

Theft such as this must be devastating.

I've used Air-Tags which are a lot more expensive and only work when close to a device on Apples Ecosystem - its similar for Samsungs Smart Tag

 

These GPS tags you mention, are they active or passive ?.

They reply on a 'Bluetooth network' ?? (within a manufacturer eco-system)

Or, like Tile, connect 'through' only those devices running the specific App.

I have known Thais to leave the key in the bike for "convenience". However we don't know if that is what happened here.

 

From the various online videos available of Pattaya bike thief gangs,

 

i. they always work in groups.

ii. if they don't have a key/can't start the bike, an accomplice on a motorbike will push them using the back footpeg as the contact point. They can put some distance between the stolen bike and the point it was stolen from very quickly using this method.

I'm pro disc locks but can be a fumble to remove in the dark. 

 

I bought this item recently on Lazada, cheap and practical. No more bending over, just place around throttle and brake.

Key locks are easy to break. 

 

Force a large screwdriver into the key hole and turn.

That looks good, will it work with a wave? No brake on throttle side?

Oh sorry, yes you can place on the other side, it will lock your brake but preferred throttle side

They aren't as fully featured as an AirTag, but we are discussing something affordable as opposed to no way to track it at all.

 

You can choose a 'name brand' such as 'eufy' or Ugreen' if you'd like to pay a bit more. Around 400 baht. May have extra functionality.
