Fire Incident at Thonburi Remand Prison Quickly Contained

A fire broke out on the morning of November 22, at Thonburi Remand Prison, located on Ekachai Road, Bang Bon Tai Subdistrict, Bang Bon District. 

The Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department’s Bang Khun Thian Station responded promptly after being alerted via hotline 199 at approximately 10:30.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at in just under 10 minutes and identified the blaze within a three-story building on the prison premises. The building is a 4 storey residential block for staff and their families. Smoke was observed emanating from the second floor of the structure. All persons had been safety evacuated from the building.

Emergency personnel quickly began containment efforts, and within 10 minutes the fire had been successfully extinguished. No injuries were reported from the fire.

Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire, but stress at no time were any staff or prisoners in danger and the prison’s emergency plan was initiated correctly.
