She has 2 daughters and agreed to give me a kid. She is requesting 100k baht.

I am a 22 yo college graduate from a top western university.

She’s 29 with kids and you’re 22. In case no one here has mentioned it…Nothing ZERO 0. If she insists then you can easily go fetch your self another squeeze

So it has no benefit to the girl?

If I am not misinformed, the sin sot is similar to the Chinese wedding whereby the dowry paid to the bride is firstly for the financial safety net if the girl should ever be left behind by the absconding husband , can go back to her parents.
secondly, for the appreciation of the parents for bringing up the bride. Bride being a virgin is just a bonus. It just happened that more brides from yesteryears were virgins than nowadays.

It was expected, perhaps even demanded. It wasn't a bonus.

If you attempt to apply even the slightest effort to establish an understanding of Thai culture you will realize that so many elements are dictated by the need to save face, amongst the family, amongst and the villagers, and once you realize that you can figure out all kinds of creative workarounds. In our particular case it was a very simple creative workaround, that allowed the family to save face, and hold their chins high, and it was all good. I trusted the family, we got the money back, there were no issues. If you do not make an attempt to understand Thai culture your entire time here in Thailand will be a battle instead. I enjoy every single day I'm here.

The other aspect to this is that if the woman you want to marry does not understand this, and does not have your back on this, then you know she's the wrong woman and you just move on.

Sounds more like a way to show everyone what a "Big Man" you are.

Are you so naive to believe the villagers dont know you gave with one hand and took with other. Sounds like you know very little .

Actually it's kind of normal these days to do this. We did it too (15yrs ago) as did several of my friends. Now, 25 years ago not so much, back then I had a few friends pay a decent amount.
