A fire broke out early this morning in Wang Tapab village, Nong Prong Subdistrict, Sri Maha Phot District, Prachinburi Province, claiming the life of a 14-year-old boy who was alone at home, along with several pet dogs.

At around 08:00, Police Lieutenant Kittipong Sihabut, an investigator at Rabo Phai Police Station, received a report of a house fire. Firefighters from the Nong Prong Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and rescue volunteers were dispatched to the scene, a single-story house located 3–4 kilometres off the main road.

Upon arrival, authorities found the house engulfed in flames. Efforts to extinguish the fire were hindered by the house’s wooden structure, which fueled the flames despite the house’s concrete base. Firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before it was brought under control. However, the house was completely gutted, with only the charred frame remaining.

Inside the first bedroom, responders discovered the body of a 14-year-old boy on the bed, burned beyond recognition. The fire also destroyed all possessions, including three motorcycles, and killed 6 pet dogs, whose remains were found in the house.

The boy’s parents, who were out buying groceries at a nearby market, rushed back upon learning of the fire. The mother collapsed repeatedly upon seeing the aftermath and required first aid from rescuers.

The boy’s father explained that the family of four lived in the house, and on this Sunday morning, he and his wife had left their son sleeping while they went to the market. The boy, known for being a deep sleeper, typically woke up early for school but was allowed to rest as it was the weekend.

“This child is a deep sleeper. If it’s not a school day, he tends to sleep in. We didn’t want to disturb him and left quietly for the market. I believe this fire started from a phone charger and I want to warn others to be cautious about charging devices like phones or tablets, ensure they’re fully unplugged when not in use,” the father said.

Forensic investigators will conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause of the fire.
