Let the agent go into bat for you and watch the difference the same agent of course that provides multiple bookings daily to all the same airlines......another internet myth is if you book with agent you cant contact the airline yourself...absolute utter bollacks proven to myself many times

 

Go back on this thread to where I mention Oman air experience......if I had booked direct that day I simply would not have flown

If you pay by credit card you are not covered by the refund rules if the airline defaults as you are using an intermediary.  If you book direct with the supplier, the airline, you are fully covered.

Last month I flew BKK to LHR stopping off in DXB for a few days. The price was the same with or without the stop-over both ways.

No. Section 75 applies only to actions of the direct recipient of the CC payment, NOT to any 2nd or 3rd party.

If you book through an agent and the flight is delayed and you would be entitled to compensation after so many hours you would not get it if booked via an agent.

Same with holiday hotel bookings etc where you book through and agent and the room is not available.  If you book directly with the hotel you are covered. 

 

Also note you must pay at least £100 of any bill which is greater than £100, no matter the final full amount, on the credit card to be covered (UK rules). So if the bill is £1,000 as long as you pay at least £100 by CC you are covered.  How you pay the balance is irrelevant.

Anything below £100 id covered if the whole balance is paid by CC.

Wrong. You can pay one pound of a 100 quid purchase on your Credit Card for Section 75 to be valid. Both ChatGPT and Co-Pilot confirm this, as does Nationwide Credit Card.

 

This makes  booking hotel rooms, car hire and flights through booking.com or the others very undesireable.

But so many hotels will not book directly.

Back to paying some of your flight with a Credit Card in order to take advantage of Section 75, I do not know of any airline who gives you the option of doing that eg GBP 10 on CC and the balance on a Debit Card or Bank Transfer.

I guess you could pay it all on your CC if you have the limit, and then immediately do a Bank Transfer to the CC.

Same applies I guess to hotels et al.

Referring back to this Credit card chargeback etc have just been on all 3 of the main agents I personally use

All payments are guaranteed no matter how funds are received under their inclusive compensation schemes should an airline go belly up

 

I do recall in the past it was a £2 additional cost for the peace of mind. Now its inclusive but no matter what you'll get a full refund if an airline went bankrupt

 

If those 3 are covered I suspect all agents are now.

 

I have been on an airline that went belly up Phuket Air on their short lived Bangkok to Gatwick service but had completed the trip before it was grounded indefinately at Gatwick

Both booking.com and expedia DONOT allow split payments. So, all on one C Card and pay it off immediately with D Card or Bank. Advised by ChatGPT and Co-Pilot.
