Car Runs Red Light, Collides with Motorcycle, Killing 80-Year-Old Man

In a tragic collision on December 14, an 80-year-old man lost his life after his motorcycle was struck by a car running a red light. The incident occurred at the Kaesap Ban intersection in Khlung District, Rayong.

 

At 16:30 Lt. Col. Anupong Pungpee, Deputy Investigator of the Khlung Police Station, received a report from local rescue volunteers about the crash. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities reviewed CCTV footage, which captured a white Honda Civic car speeding toward the intersection. The car ran the red light and collided with a blue Honda Wave motorcycle, which had also entered the intersection from the opposite direction.

 

The impact was severe, causing fatal injuries to the motorcycle rider, Mr. Chela aged 80. He was rushed to the Khlung Hospital but was declared dead shortly after arriving. Prior to the accident, Mr. Chela had been out to buy groceries and was heading home to his residence, located about 2 kilometres from the intersection.

 

Lt. Col. Anupong took the driver of the car to the police station for further questioning as part of the investigation into the cause of the crash. Both vehicles have been impounded for examination, and legal proceedings are set to follow.

Sadly, that probably will not happen until someone rich and important gets killed.

It's not tragic when a cretin shoots a red light and kills someone. It's downright criminal and said cretin should face serious sanction. I think the Americans call it vehicular homicide or something.

That's why I don't like the countdown to the light changing colour. When approaching a green light you should be anticipating that the light will change and adjust your speed appropriately. With a countdown to change some people will accelerate to try and beat a red light. If they get it wrong then they are going to overshoot a red light because of additional  speed. By all means have a timer showing how long you have to wait at a red light.

Just this morning i pulled up as lights went red and five vehicles passed me as they jumped the red light.    Happens every second of every day here.

Having been here now for almost 20 years i would say driving standards have dropped dramatically, particularly in the last five years.    Can't see how it's ever going to improve with no Enforcement of Laws.
