Cant remeber any "unprovoked" attack, although sometimes the attack occurs for reasons that might be questionable or the force exceeds that which is reasonable.

Remove alcohol from the equation too.

Quite a few members on this forum seem to be under the impression that Thais like to beat up foreigners for enjoyment, pleasure or because of some sort of hatred.

Could  you provide a few examples? I've been reading AN for years and have never got the impression that 'quite a few members' have these concerns.

I get attacked by Thai girls all the time when I walk down Soi 6, they all go and attack my dick often on that street just when I walk minding my own business. It's very dangerous indeed here in Thailand.

what do you think?

Are you scared to go out at night amongst Thais or do you feel safe in Thailand?

Personally I feel safer here walking around alone, drunk late at night whether it be in Bangkok or a small village than I do back in London.

I am naive or are others plain paranoid?

I've never been raped or murdered or bombed, therefore all rape/murder/bomb victims must have brought it on themselves, maybe their behaviour or the way they dressed ........ how stupid do I sound?

Next I'll be claiming divorce and asset stripping only happens to guys that deserve it, or weren't careful in choosing their women.

In reality we all want to believe that we're the good guys, and nothing bad will ever happen to us. This is actually dangerous and delusional thinking, bad stuff happens randomly, cars crash, boats sink, snakes bite, dogs attack, earthquakes and floods kill, wishful thinking won't help you avoid this happening to you.

You've highlighted an issue that I was not aware of, the poll is showing 9 yes and 21 no.

This is alarming, now I understand why I get regularly attacked here with hostility and aggression for my comments. I thought there would be 1 or 2, not 9, you started the poll only 14 hours ago.

It must be so sad these 'yes' people living in beautiful Thailand and thinking this.

Malcolm in the 1st post summed it up pretty well.  Show respect, don't yell, don't get angry, don't say something mean or call them stupid and you will be fine with 99.99% of the people.

Quite a few members on this forum seem to be under the impression that Thais like to beat up foreigners for enjoyment, pleasure or because of some sort of hatred. That happens in some countries obviously but I don’t think Thais are really wired that way.

While others, including others always feel very safe walking around, even late at night around large groups of Thai strangers. As long as you are friendly and polite you have nothing to worry about, unless perhaps you come across someone with mental issues.

Of course if you are aggressive or rude to Thais as many foreigners are you will eventually come unstuck and they often end up in the news reports.. Some people mistake kindness for weakness.

I've been here for 18 years and (touch wood) it hasn't happened to me. I feel safer walking around downtown Pattaya late at night than I used to in the small town I last lived in the UK. Maybe I've said it before on here, but it was like Dodge City in the westerns on weekend evenings.

Thailand is safer than most countries.  Accounts of attacks by Thais on foreigners  are not common place and usually occur in the early hours with excess of alcohol involved.

Compare that to reports from mainstream media from the Uk of daily

Knife attacks,  phone snatching in many arears during daytime.
