Police have arrested two Chinese men for allegedly extorting money from a fellow Chinese national after luring him through a dating app. The suspects, identified as Mr. Sun Jian, 31, and Mr. Sun Hao, 23, were detained at a residence on Pracha Uthit Soi 24 in Huai Khwang District, Bangkok.

 

The arrests, made on December 20, followed an order from Pol. Maj. Gen. Prasong Anamanee, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 9. The suspects face multiple charges, including armed extortion, physical assault, illegal detention, and possession of firearms and ammunition without a permit.

 

Confiscated items from the arrest include:

 

1. A homemade 380 caliber pistol

2. 29 rounds of 380 caliber ammunition

3. One .380 magazine

4. A baton

5. Two pairs of handcuffs

6. A knife

 

The investigation began after the victim, Mr. Peng Yonghao, 18, also a Chinese national, reported the incident to Phasi Charoen Police Station on December 17. He stated that he connected with the suspects via a dating app called "Blued" and arranged to meet at a hotel in Bang Wa Subdistrict, Phasi Charoen District.

 

Upon arrival, the victim was overpowered. Mr. Sun Hao allegedly dragged him from the sofa to the bed, handcuffed his hands behind his back, and threatened him with a gun. The suspects tied the victim's ankles, used a baton to beat him, and forced him to unlock his phone to transfer money.

 

The victim was coerced into transferring a total of 10,000 yuan (approximately 50,000 THB) via Alipay to a Bank of China account under Mr. Sun Jian's name. After hours of captivity, the victim was released near Phasi Charoen MRT Station and subsequently reported the incident to the police.

 

With the assistance of surveillance footage and investigative efforts, officers from Metropolitan Police Division 9 tracked the suspects to their hiding place and arrested them.

 

The suspects are currently in custody. Police have coordinated with the Tourist Police Bureau to provide translation services for further questioning. Both suspects will be prosecuted according to Thai law.
