A 38-year-old man died after his pickup truck crashed into road barriers twice and plunged into the Pasak River in Ayutthaya’s Nakhon Luang district. Despite efforts by local fishermen to assist, the vehicle sank completely before help could reach him.

The incident occurred at around 19:30 on December 23, near the U-turn under the Nakhon Luang Bridge in Moo 5, Bang Rakam subdistrict. Police from Nakhon Luang Police Station, led by Police Captain Rakchart Prasoppol, and rescue divers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association were dispatched to the scene.

Witnesses reported that a white four-door Isuzu pickup truck had been idling for a short time before the driver revved the engine and rammed into the concrete barriers. After reversing, the vehicle accelerated and struck the barriers again, dislodging one into the river and knocking over another before the truck itself plunged into the Pasak River. The entire vehicle slowly sank beneath the water, with no one seen exiting the cab.

Rescue divers began their search in the 4-metre-deep river and eventually located the submerged truck. Upon opening the driver’s side door, they discovered the body of the driver, identified as Mr. Anon, a 38-year-old resident of Buriram province.

The vehicle, which was found lying flat on the riverbed was retrieved. A tow truck was used to lift it from the water. The front of the truck sustained significant damage, with its bumper detached, but the windows remained intact.

According to the victim’s relatives, Mr. Anon had earlier visited family in Song Phi Nong, Suphan Buri province, and was on his way to Chanthaburi to reunite with his wife and child. Police are working to review CCTV footage from the area to determine the exact cause of the incident.

The victim’s body has been sent to the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy. Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Obvious suicide......
