A fire devastated the home of Yom Boonchure, 59, and Yee Thongmak, 62, in Ban Sanuan, Surin, leaving their possessions, including cash, gold, and silk, worth over 2.5 million baht (US$73,205) destroyed. The blaze occurred on December 21, burning down both their old wooden house and a newer two-story house.

The immediate material loss is over 500,000 baht (US$14,640), which was saved from a total of 700,000 baht (US$20,490). Originally, they planned to spend this on a tractor, leaving them with 500,000 baht which was partly lost in the fire. It’s believed that 350,000 baht (US$10,240) in thousand-baht notes were burned, with the couple aiming to exchange the damaged notes at the bank.

On December 23, locals rallied to support the couple, and village head, Pishet Chaiwiang, confirmed the losses. Donations are being collected through two bank accounts at the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, Kab Cheong branch under the couple’s names. Yee Thongmak's account number is 018262018984, and Yom Boonchure's account number is 020141158572, receiving over 26,000 baht (US$760) combined.

As community support pours in, the couple, overwhelmed by the loss of their homes and savings, awaits relief items from Suttichote, the district chief of Kab Cheong. Those interested in contributing can donate to the specified bank accounts or contact village head Pishet Chaiwiang at 093-696-3880 for more information.
