Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
I have concerns about my Social Security income. This is the first time I have read the double tax agreement, which states that if I live in Thailand for more than 180 days, I am considered a resident and must fill out a tax form. It does not mention paying taxes. I am married to a beautiful Thai lady and have lived here for many years. However, each time I apply for my one-year visa extension, I have never been asked to fill out a tax form. I guess I should continue and not say anything; keep my mouth shut. I agree with most that this article is a bit ambiguous. -

Forest Fire in Chonburi Threatens Monastery
Picture from responders. A forest fire in Chonburi has rapidly spread across a wide area, coming dangerously close to a local monastery in Pong Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District. Firefighters have worked throughout the night to bring the blaze under control. The fire broke out at approximately 21:30 on 15 January, in a forested area near the mountains of Moo 4 in Pong Subdistrict. The flames have engulfed a significant area and continue to spread, posing a direct threat to a nearby monastery. Emergency services and multiple fire engines were dispatched to the scene to tackle the blaze and prevent it from reaching the religious site. Meanwhile, local monks, residents, and volunteers have joined efforts to protect the monastery by clearing leaves and grass and creating firebreaks around the property. Authorities have confirmed that the fire is located some distance from residential areas, resulting in no direct damage to homes or properties. However, the smoke generated by the blaze has severely impacted nearby communities. Residents in the area noted that these types of fire are an annual occurrence, but this year’s fire has started earlier than expected. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the fire was caused by natural phenomena or human activities. Despite the combined efforts of firefighters and locals, the forest fire remained uncontained throughout the night. and the situation is being closely monitored to ensure it does not threaten local communities and hopes that it can be fully extinguished during daylight hours of January 16. -- 2025-01-16 -

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
I'm not clear about what you want to say here, but one thing I can tell you to make it clear is that a DTA (Double Taxation Agreement) is not an agreement that allows 2 countries to tax you on the same item. On the contrary, it is an agreement to avoid double taxation. Now, each DTA between "Country 1" and "Country 2", be it Germany-Zimbabwe, USA-Timbuktu or Croatia-PNG will have all sorts of bells and whistles and they will differ from DTA to DTA. Certain income items will be taxable in Country 1 and not in Country 2, others will be taxable in Country 2 and not in Country 1 - and yet other items might not be taxable at all. -

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
Remaining non resident is the best option all around if you're making decent money until the dust settles, I am continuing to take this approach for the next few years.
