There's always TWO sides to the story ,and I'm swaying towards the Thai man  It's obvious your dogs were outside barking at people maybe even trying to snap or bite  at passersby but we know for

What's the backstory? People don't poison dogs for fun.

So somehow your dogs die from some poison and you're  going to retaliate by punishing your wife?

It's only a slow death if someone doesn't put them out of their misery.

BTW, the rats die that way too but it doesn't stop people using rat poison, so less hypocrisy about animal cruelty would be appropriate. A bad dog is just as much a pest as a rat IMO.

but no one keeps a rat as a pet.

people get emotionally attached to dogs.

no one get emotionally attached to rats.

the rat doesn't belong to anyone.

but i don't wish suffering on rats.

Thai dogs don't let you catch them to put a knife in their heart, so poisoning is usually the only way to get rid of them. A dog is only bad if it has a bad master.

BTW I've had dogs of my own and they didn't cause problems for other people.

The old no bad dogs only bad owners apologist nonsense as usual. Dogs by nature are pests irrespective of what the owners are like. These were probably barking day and night or biting, they love to attack kids being sly predators. Not sure what you think a good owners is, but they cannot change the nature of dogs, they will always be pests to some extent.

People don't go around killing dogs for no reason.

We all see you have a hatred and or dislike for dogs, but what you don't understand is that millions of people have them as pets. Pets that are more loyal than most people could be. Pets which have saved countless lives in ownership, police forces and the military. pets who are companions to the blind and invalid, who need them to do everyday tasks they can't manage by themselves. They provide hours of comfort to owners, laughter and companionship. Many people cannot leave their homes, and have dogs to keep them company, which can help stave depression.

I know you will counter this by saying some dogs have killed, but compare that to the countless people other people have killed intentionally. Yes dogs can smell, if they aren't taken care of by their owners. They can prevent burglaries in homes, and protect the family from intruders. Any animal can be a pest if allowed to overpopulate and roam free, as in the deer species.

When a dog barks all day, they're usually bored and need companionship, or their owners haven't taught them to keep quiet. This can be resolved with electronic collars if the owner has to be away much of the time. They don't have to be a nuisance, and most of the problems with dogs is the owners themselves, or people attacking and throwing things at them because they don't like them , trust them, or lump them all into one category, pests. The nature of dogs correlates with the nature of their owners. An aggressive, abusive person will make the same out of his dog because they mirror their owners behavior. A good natured, kind person will have animals that act the same. This I have seen all of my life.

No, they kill them because they are mentally ill. If a dog isn't attacking them or others, they have no reason to attack a dog.

How many dogs does the OP have? He cites, "2 of"....

Are they contained, trained, & managed?

What's the history?

Have the dogs chased down cyclists, walkers, children, or threatened anybody? Chased chickens or livestock?

Something wrong with people who feel they need more than 2 dogs

and quiet?  Thailand has a real dog problem with 'ownerless' roaming dogs spreading disease; causing accidents; attacking passers-by.  Whilst I do not condone the killing (by poison), I can understand why someone may be driven to it by sleep-deprivation after barking dogs are allowed to disturb the peace.

Yes I have evidence. No not punishing my wife she can follow me if she wants. It was a very painful death as we tried to save them. Police not interested and that is my main frustration. The man was always scared of dogs and would throw rocks and such until I caught him in the act.   All in all maybe it;s my fault calling him out not to harm them. The basterd is now nowhere to be seen.

so your dogs were barking all the time ?

This is all assumption and classic victim blaming, this time the dogs; bet you wouldn’t be blaming them if they were “trans” dogs ¯\_()_/¯

Yeah . . . no.

Mentally ill have plenty to keep them occupied with all the alternative realities bouncing around in their heads. Killing dogs isn't in any of them.

Killing anything that's innocent comes from a mental illness. Rational people don't hurt others or animals. People who target animals will target humans as well. Almost all serial killers start out killing animals. It's a weakness and control issue that stems from an abusive childhood, where parents either abused or neglected them, or did the same themselves and the child grew up thinking it was normal behavior.

And some here think older people are all about to die because they've reached 60+. Those people need to understand there is no way of knowing when you will pass.

If you’re a responsible dog owner, then you’re unlikely to have any problems.

To be responsible…

Your dogs should be fenced in and never allowed onto public property except on a leash.

Your dogs should never be allowed onto private property whatsoever.

Your dogs should not be allowed to bark at passing strangers.

Your dogs should not be allowed to foul outside your property and if they do, it should be immediately picked up by you.

At night your dogs should be locked indoors and not allowed to bark.

If you do all this, I doubt you will have anyone trying to kill them.

If you don’t do all of these, you’re unfit to keep dogs.

Some years ago, my neighbor kept dogs outside at night. They were prone to barking when they heard another dog. Every time they barked, I got up and banged on his door until he came out and I told him his dogs were barking and disturbed my sleep.  After 3 nights he moved his dogs indoors.

as usual,  the OP's story has more holes in it than swiss cheese   :

were the dogs always locked in your property   ?

were the dogs allowed to roam outside your place and in the soi    ?

were your dogs barking constantly all day and night  ?

Unless you answer those 3 questions,    no one can make and informed comment.

What you asking is perfectly normal most places in Thailand and do not lead to poisoning of dogs by normal people.

However, if the dogs kill chickens, it happens more often rat poisoning being used in baits for the dogs coming to their land. As much potentially killing the surrounding dogs, they also kill their own dogs.

First hand experience.

Most dogs are just soi dogs, and attach to house because they feed them.

We have two soi dogs who live freely and good watch dogs, and I have one muscle dog who are trained and never leaves the land without us, as well sleep inside during the night.

Since I've lived here, I personally have lost 4 dogs to a scumbag who poisoned them. Add to that 4 other dogs who always came to my house because I like dogs, would pet them, and give them a treat. Also, 7 cats have died here. Dogs definitely killed three, but the rest most likely were poisoned. Funny thing is, only one of my neighbor's dogs was poisoned. Add to this every animal that lives at my ex's mom's house 1/2 kilo away. Same thing. No neighbor dogs have died, just the ones living there. I tell my ex that it's a member of her family (most likely a cousin who lives with them who's very strange and has many times passed my house on his scooter, seeing if I'm home, then continuing on back home, where there is no reason to go past my house otherwise), or a village person who hates this family, and since I used to be part of it, poisons animals here also. Not an easy thing to catch someone who poisons animals as all they have to do is pass by and drop it on the ground. The actions of a lowlife, killing pets because of a mental illness. Wish I had proof so I could give some payback, but I don't accuse unless I have evidence. Very hurtful way to die, and some people are very sick and haven't any place in society.

What have you  done to cause people to dislike you?

what does live freely mean ?   are they secured in your property or are they in the soi  ?

is the muscle dog locked / secured in your property all the time  ?

no nothing about dogs but still need to say your thing don't you.

I adopted a neighbors Shih Tzu a few years back because she was malnourished. I wouldn't leave her on the street from fear she would get hit by passing cars. One thing I learned is that housing village idiots don't give a $hit about anything. My dog (Stang) got chased by a big dog. When I reported this to my (previous) wife she said oh that dog really nice. A week later that dog killed another dog. After that I let Stang share the bed with my previous wife. She wasn't too happy about it. I often think she dumped me because I didn't want children, but it could have been because of Stang.

owning two dogs is fine as long as they are secured on the owners property and pose no risk to biting anyone.

owning two dogs if fine as long as the don't bark constantly day and night and / or annoy other folks nearby.

It's very simple really     !!
