Thailand Post to Hike Fees Again as Costs Rise

Thailand Post, the nation's leading postal service provider, has announced its decision to implement a second increase in postage fees in less than two years. This change, which comes amid rising operational costs, is set to affect a wide array of postal services.

Just last year, for the first time in nearly two decades, Thailand Post raised its service charges. Now, facing continued financial pressures, the organisation finds itself raising fees once more. These adjustments will impact a variety of services including envelope letters, packaged letters, registered envelope letters, printed goods, postcards, and parcels.

Primarily driven by escalating fuel prices and increased wage demands, these fee hikes are part of Thailand Post's efforts to maintain financial sustainability while continuing to offer reliable service. The cost adjustments are carefully calibrated to reflect the changing economic landscape without compromising service quality.

For customers regularly sending items within Thailand or internationally, these increases could mean a notable difference in expenses. For example, the cost of posting a standard letter within Thailand will see a modest rise, with charges for regular parcels seeing a more significant adjustment.

To soften the blow of these new costs, Thailand Post is encouraging customers to consider its Eco Post service. This service offers a budget-friendly alternative to registered mail, providing similar tracking capabilities at a reduced price. Eco Post has been well-received by regular and business clients alike for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Converting these new rates into Thai Baht: where previously a simple parcel might have cost around 32 THB, customers may now expect to pay closer to 35 THB, depending on size and destination. International rates are subject to varying increases based on destination and weight, reflecting the additional costs of cross-border logistics.

Despite these changes, Thailand Post remains dedicated to offering comprehensive postal solutions across the nation. The organisation continues to adapt to both local and global economic pressures, investing in technology and service improvements to streamline operations and enhance customer satisfaction.

This measure, though essential from an operational standpoint, is likely to draw mixed reactions from the public. Frequent postal users might need to adjust their budgeting strategies, while businesses that rely heavily on postal services may explore alternative delivery methods or partners.

As Thailand Post navigates these challenges, it assures customers of its commitment to transparency and timely service delivery, emphasising that these adjustments are critical for maintaining the integrity and future of postal services in the country. The company is anticipated to release further details on the specific fee changes in the coming weeks, providing ample time for customers to prepare for these new rates, reported The Nation.

Posting international is already exorbitant. Returned a letter to UK last year and it was something like 3-4x the cost with a 2-3 week delivery. EMS was well over 1000 baht, with ‘maybe’ one week delivery. Shocking. Never used to be this way.

International EMS is expensive but not necessary - use "Rong Tabien" (Registered Airmail) instead

They must get their fuel from outside Thailand, because my diesel has been same price since ages. Sure their trucks use diesel.

No objection from me. Thai Post delivers quickly, and is easy and friendly to deal with at post offices, and easy for me to track down any problems. Last time I had a problem was 2018. Since then everything arrives on or ahead of time. Great service.

I agree - Thailand post were very good.

I say were - since the lovely Wuhan Flu struck, we have not had a postman.

EMS and couriers deliver, but no regular post for years now.

Wish I could say the same as John Drake and Tropicalevo. When we lived in Bang Saphan Noi it took months for letters or parcels to arrive. In fact they “lost” a number of items for 4 months!! Suddenly found in the warehouse!

Bearing in mind this was in 2024, having emailed postalcare, I received a reply with a photocopy of delays being attributed to Covid dated 2022!!

Now here in Hua Hin, getting a repeat of the problem. Still waiting on gifts/cards sent in November for Christmas!! From what I have read, this is a common problem in the area at the moment.I wonder if this is Covid 2022 again!! 🤣🤣

I sent a letter to the UK last month, normal size and less than 300grams, they quoted 1,950 baht...

I queried it with the girl and she then asked for 330 baht..

It was received in the UK one week later

I regularly send letters to family in the UK - Airmail is 55 baht, they get there in a week. At Christmas friends posted Christmas cards Airmail from the UK - £2.80 ( about 120 baht)

I took out a post office box at the Taling Chan post office in Bangkok. It has absolutely zero problems. I've ordered books and received them from the UK and US in four or five days. PO Box rent is only 500 baht/year.

We get good service from Thai Post.  Our house is in Chiang Rai and we have a condo in Bangkok.  I regularly ship things back to Chiang Rai from Bangkok.  My wife calls up the local post office in Bangkok and arranges a pickup.  They pick up the package for free and within an hour we get a message with a QR code for the cost to ship.  As long as everything is paid by mid afternoon the package will arrive in Chiang Rai the next day.  We get delivery 7 days a week.  I’ve tried other shipping companies but they can take up to 4 days to deliver the package.
