A horrifying incident occurred in the early hours of January 8th, when a 68-year-old man was brutally murdered by his drug-addicted son-in-law at his rented home in Tha Ruea, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The victim, identified as Mr. Uthai, was found in the kitchen with his throat slashed in a violent attack.

The police, led by Lieutenant Colonel Phuwasit Nakkeerket from the Chamuang Police Station, responded to the scene, where they discovered the body. Medical staff and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Tueng Foundation also attended the scene. The victim's throat had been severely cut with a sharp object, and there was a significant amount of blood in the room.

Initial investigations revealed that the perpetrator was 35-year- old Mr. Kratchitphon, the victim's son-in-law, who had been struggling with severe drug addiction. His wife had fallen into a state of depression due to his behaviour and was recently admitted to the hospital for treatment. On the previous day, Mr. Kratchitphon had caused a disturbance at the hospital while his wife was being treated, and his erratic behaviour had escalated.

At around 02:00, neighbours reported hearing Mr. Kratchitphon's car pull up to the house. He called for his father-in-law to open the door, claiming he was there to take a cat. Once Mr. Uthai opened the door, a loud argument ensued before the noise suddenly stopped. Moments later, Mr. Kratchitphon quickly drove away. It wasn't until the morning that family members arrived and, upon receiving no response from Mr. Uthai, broke into the house to find him lifeless, with his throat slit.

Mr. Uthai's wife, Mrs. Boonjung, explained that she had been at the hospital with their daughter the previous evening and knew about her son-in-law's drug problems. Fearing he might attack, she decided to stay elsewhere that night, but her husband refused to leave and stayed alone in the house. Tragically, Mr. Uthai became the victim of his son-in-law's violent outburst.

After the attack, Mr. Kratchitphon fled to his parents' home about 7 km away. His parents, likely aware of the crime, contacted the police to report the situation. However, by the time officers arrived, he had already escaped. The police later tracked him to the Maharat Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for a wound sustained during the crime. He was arrested at 09:00 on January 8th.

Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the brutal attack and are focusing on Mr. Kratchitphon's drug addiction as a possible contributing factor to his violent behaviour.

I suspect his wife is mighty proud of her husband.
